Difference between 5th Gen & 5.5 Gen

Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but what the hell is the difference between a 5th gen & a 5.5 gen.I mean the 5th gen is 2000-2003. Wouldn't they all be 5th gen? Is there a difference in engine displacement and can you qualify the years for me. I have a 2003,so is that considered a 5.5 gen? Thanks for answering this qustion for me and making me smarter.

5 gen = 2000 - 2001
5.5 gen = 2002 - 2003

Some say it's the added engine displacement, I prefer to state it's the added amenities as well as the engine.

Included example: IMO, 6th gens = 2004 - 2006, 6.5 gen = 2007-2008. No change in engine displacement, but added items and complete overhaul / change in drivetrain.

BTW, 2000 - 2001 = 3.0L engine
2002 - 2003 = 3.5L engine.

they use the same wheel bearings and CV joints. 5.5 gen drivers drive like old ladies, so they don't wear them out as fast

dealer was full of crap. My oil pan has scratches/scrapes in the paint with alot more miles than yours did and the rust is only surface. I know rust from the inside out when I see it, and I was the one whose finger went through it, rememeber?
