I have checked this item on the courtesyparts...it shows the whole assembly.
Yes the whole assembly (MAF screen, outer plastic tube, & the actual sensor). The note I got in mine says it requires special programming though....

I checked my MAF, it does have the security torx in it so I need to get the special tool. HF has it for $7.99 for a 100 pc set. Now that's a deal.

Will definitely do this this weekend. Will also disconnect battery for the re-learn. Keeping fingers crossed that no CEL shows up after.

I just received new MAF but has the Thermister. My old one did not have this, so can I use this one with the Thermister or do I need to remove it? I have read through this topic several times and did many searched and the only thing I have found is when using a 2k or 2k1 with a 2k2 or 2k3. Mine is a 2k '00 5th not a 5.5 model. Thanks in advanced.

why would you buy the expensive one when you can just use a cheaper one?

Great write. I was seeking that performance me 2k maxima had on my 2k2 maxima and this seems to have given my 2k2 maxima that performance I was looking for.

Ordered off eBay ($64.00) said it was for 2k and was not aware at the time that there were different ones for 2k until I received it. I went ahead and installed it and the power is back but now it will die every now and while idling.our

Thanks for your original post wish I would have found this first.

Nice job. I ended up having to replace the MAF because the cleaning did not work. I wish I would have had a thorough procedure like the one you posted. Thanks!

Thanks for the great post!

Seems to have worked. I had a 2000 with 51K miles and P0171 for a few months now together with an intermittent P074.

Items.

A) I needed the security bit.
B) I could not disconnect the MAF from the Clip no matter which way I tried. So I did it as someone else suggested just pulling the whole MAF out while connected to the clip.

Now here's the odd thing. As soon as I connected the battery and restarted the car the CEL was gone. I attached the read the code scanner, suspecting that it would give me a not ready, but it did not. It gave me a zero. Is this to be expected?

disconnecting the battery on 2000 resets the code.

Where did you get this form ebay? Is it OEM? Are you talking about the MAF?

Ok, so it's not certain that the MAF clean worked. Fine. But that means that you can easily cheat on inspection emissions! That's good to know.

Cleaned my MAF today. Stupid me, I did not study how to unlock the connector, ended up breakig the locking tab. My connector is different and I did not pay attention. Mine has the yellow with an arrow that says...PUSH stupid!

Anyway, got it cleaned and put back, had to tie wrap the connector to make sure it does not go up.

So we'll see if there is some improvement on the ride and gas mileage.

Lesson, be careful in yanking out the connector, there should be a proper way.

Also, my MAF looks like aftermarket and it does not have the resistor. And it looks new.

Be careful - I know the B15 MAF wires are very sensitive to cleaners

Ok, now I get it, I do not need to have the resistor. I have an 00. I can use a 5.5 Gen MAF though, right? In case I need to replace.

5th gen MAF is all you need. The stock replacement.

I have a 2000 Maxi w/ 138k miles and it started to bog down and misfire badly last week. I thought it was the ignition coils based on other threads, but I found this thread and cleaned the MAF sensor since it was a cheap and quick process. Amazing! Cleaning the sensor did the trick - back to normal. Thanks!

The MAF cleaner says, clean your MAF every oil change. I might have to do this.

Just sprayed mine down. Is drying currently, will take for a drive around 7ish.

Edit: Just took it for a drive, used to hesitate before shifting. Does it immediately now, and puts me into my seat more than it used to. Great cheap mod.

It is recommended, written in the MAF cleaner that this spray-cleaning be done every oil change. Might be a good idea.

Besides what the heck are you going to do with the cleaner? It is good for 10,000 sprays!

Hey everyone. Could it be that the maf is causing my TCS and SLIP lights to come on once in a while and cause the engine to sputter?

My 2002 SE has 196,000 miles on it. I popped out the MAF, sprayed the junk out of it with the CRC MAF cleaner, shook it around a bit and popped it back in. Engine started normally, seemed to sputter but I drove 40 miles or so and it does feel slightly improved.

Took all of 5 minutes in the parts store parking lot. No Idle Air Volume Relearn, but I did pull the negative battery cable off.

Won't know about the power improvements until I drop a new radiator in haha.

It began stalling again and running rough a week later, so we pulled out the IACV and Throttle body and cleaned those up. Got it giving again and then the stalls happened, again.

Cleaned the MAF with a passion this time and now the car is going like snot again. So for those who tried and got good then bad, you might want to clean the IACV, Throttle body and then REALLY clean the MAF. It took a bit of time to get the other parts out, but really saved me some cash.

I just ordered a new MAF because I figure since it's one of the cheaper parts in the car, I might as well replace that to avoid having to clean it throughout the year (yes, I am THAT lazy).

So again, thank you for helping me avoid the mechanics bill.

This forum absolutely rules!

Great thread. I'll try the MAF clean first and then the IACV and Throttle body next, if needed. Mine has been stalling intermittently in Park and Neutral.
