I am also a thule fan for my 5th gen. I've have pretty much all the attachments. Never had a problem with them as long as they are not overloaded. I thoroughly clean the roof and feet before putting it on (don't keep it on all the time for mpg). I can get it on in 10 mins or less.

i know i'm bringing this thread back from the dead, shame on me, but one question was never answered. what brand is the roof rack nissanparts.cc it looks like (judging from semy2k2go's pics) that it's a thule, or at least compatible with Thule Accesories. Am i correct?

Very pleased. I take it off during the winter, but it has held up very well for my use and I use it nearly ever week with one and sometimes two kayaks on top.

it couldn't be better, i have jhooks on one side from thule and take them on and off quite a bit. as a result it is scuffing up the bar. this is normal, any bar will scuff up when you are constantly shifting weight on these bars via small metal brackets.

However, the thick protective coating around the bar prevents any real problems as a result. Great design. they are wide enough in my opinion. the only problem i have with them is the angle. The roofline prevents the bars from creating a flat surface and adding the jhooks makes for an even worse situation. Most thule products are adjustable enough to offer an even resting position for the boats but it's still an issue you have to pay attention too.

here are the bars in action:

BTW a few weeks after this photo (last season) i purchased proper kayak saddles to mount to the thule bar on the passenger side

can you post a link to the actual product? i can't find it on the OP's website. I need something to lug my soon-to-be-purchased surfboards around on.

i'm just trying to clarify. can you post the link to the exact product you purchased? I notice you have a 2k and the only roof rack i can find on that site is made for 02. I would assume this would work on a 2k also, but i just wanna make sure. the roof rack i found is at the very bottom of this page.

http://www.nissanparts.cc/catalog/?section=122

let me know. thanks.

put mine on last night, along with a fairing I bought from autoanything. I must say, for 88 from nissanparts, you CANNOT beat the price, even if you buy used. And even though it doesn't say "Thule" on any parts of the rack, the instructions and the wrench are from Thule, and as you can see, the Thule Fairing fits perfectly.

And yeah... I know I don't have any attachments on it, still waiting on a good price for a snowboard attachment.

SWEET, I am soo ordering one of these. I waste 30 minutes every time I want to surf just to put the soft racks (which cost me $40) on my car.

Anyone happy with the bike rack?

Just ordered one of the last sets from a nissan dealer in washington and had them ship it to me. Before shipping it they said it was scratched up, so I bargained them down to $80 + shipping. The box comes and inside there is a nissanparts.cc sticker

Give this dealer in CT a call 860 643 4165. When I called they had an incomplete set. Not sure what parts were missing but you may be able to get a deal. I settled with a scratched up complete set from a dealer in WA.

$#%$, I finally got around to installing my rack last week. The front bar is short. I was sent a kit with equal size bars. Anyone know where I can order a spare bar which will work with the mounting hardware?

i had the same issue, since the set-up we get from the dealership is diff from the regular Thule product. I recommend you just drill new holes in the ones you got (that's what i did). If you order ones from Thule they will need to be drilled too.

i used thread inserts, put socket head screws and then drilled the socket smooth so no one can steal my stuff if im parked somewhere.

So you drilled through the rivets on the bars and reconnected the towers at the appropriate length? Any pics?

yup, thats basically it, cant find the pics, but its really easy.
hear are some insert:
http://www.mcmaster.com/#threaded-inserts/=5wj90m

The sheet that comes with the towers has the dimensions (spacing) that the front should have. measure where they are now and then move accordingly. it should work out fine the end-caps have to be trimmed ever so slightly IIRC.

Sorry for the delay in response. Life's been killing me lately.

If you work M-F, there's no way I'd be able to make it out there. Do you see any problem if I use pop-rivets? I bought a box of 50 3/16" (7mm grip range) for $5 and my neighbor has a pop-rivet gun.

Yeah man, I wish I had looked into installing this sooner. The second I realized I was wrong for the front I was like dammit, I could have switched with you. Did you get yours from a dealer in WA or the east coast dealer?

Sorry guys for bringing this back fromt he dead. I have a question, does the rack interfere with the sunroof when open?, the rack seems kind of low from the pictures.

I'm definitely interested in buying one.
