POWER SUNROOF PROBLEM

My power sunroof switch stopped working this weekend on my '03 Maxima GLE. I pull it backwards for the sunroof to slide back and nothing happens? Did a fuse blow?

Do you hear anything when you press the button? Any sort of noise at all? Or is there no response at all? If you hear a really wretched screeching then get ready to spend some benjamins.

This happens to me almost everytime I disconnect my battery terminal. I found that this will usually fix it: Use the sunroof tilt switch to open it all the way (you will have to push it a bunch of times), and then do the same thing to close it all the way. Once you open it and close it all the way using the switch, then try using the slider switch thing, and it should open. If it doesn't, turn your car off and back on and try again. This works almost everytime for me.

this is in general what happens when you disconnect the battery. the FSM states a procedure for resetting the sunroof, this is basically what it says:

make sure sunroof is closed by using the tilt button. then hold the tilt close button for 5 or so seconds. the sunroof will then reset and be good to go.

You shouldn't have to open it all the way. Just close it and hold the tilt switch (close) until you hear a click...that will reset the switches.

I have a 2K Max and this procedure is not working. I have the same issue where both buttons do the same thing. It will move the roof about a half a second and I have to hit it a bunch of times to open or close it. I tried the reset procedure mentioned above. A mechanic friend told me the reset was only for 2002 and 2003 models. Any ideas? No rubbing, binding or anything.

I guess 3rd time was a charm on my 2k Max. Works now. Pulled the battery cables for 10 minutes and tried the reset again. Wierd but it worked. I was quoted $389 for the sunroof module and motor part to fix it. No reset listed in the Nissan service bay.

I disconnected the battery on my 02 max and to my surprise the roof wasnt working. Had no idea why so I started playing with the tilt button and suddenly it was working. So for me the tilt button does the trick.

My sunroof would only tilt and not roll back on my '02 SE. I just held the tilt button closed for a few seconds and it works perfectly now.

has any one ever worked on the track for the sun roof. The dealer wants to charge me 2000 to replace the tracks and the motor. The roof seams to get stuck when it is almost all the way closed. No noises just stops. One of my kids may have jambed something in there. Any ideas?

You are 100% correct! I had tried playing with both switches but could only get the tilt button to work. Just went outside and tried you're reset and now it works perfectly! Thank you for a simple fix that cost 0 dollars. You guys are a wealth of information, glad I joined the org!

2K1 Maxima sunroof doesn't work

OK, I've tried disconnecting the battery method, and it didn't fix it, so I tried the unplug the relay method and the switches to the sunroof still don't work. I started checking the fuse panel inside the car and the fuse to the sunroof is good but has no power going to it. I then checked all of the fuseable links under the hood on the driver's side and they all test good. Any suggestions?

Power Sunroof Issue on 2000 Maxima SE

Guys,

I have an issue with my sunroof. About 2 weeks ago, my power sunroof simply quit working. Fortunately it was closed! Neither the tilt nor the slide functions work. It acts like there is no electricity running through it all. No clicks. No movement. No sounds. Nothing.

I read through this thread, and I tried the suggestions with no improvement. My battery connection has not been interrupted, but I disconnected it for about 30 mins anyway. Nothing. I tried every reset mode recommended. Nothing.

I looked at the fusebox, but there is nothing labeled specific for the sunroof. Does anyone know which fuse it might be? This seems to me to be the next logical check.

Suggestions? Thoughts? Recommendations?

I bought this car new in 1999, and it has been extremely dependable and is in excellent mechanical condition. I appreciate in advance any information you can share!

sunroof moves one inch at a time? 5.5. gen

Heres the deal , when I try to open the sunroof is moves only a inch at a time by pressing the button over and over again , so that tells me the motor is still good right?

anyway I tried the disconnect battery didn't work , I unplugged the relay didn't work , and I held the tilt button down one sec as the manual says? ... didn't work...

what the heck is going on?

I have a 2002 btw if that helps.

also can something explain the 2 different buttons to me? the 'tilt' button seems to work for everything? but he button to the left does nothing.. idk im clueless lol

Marlo -- check out the stickies at the top of the list. In there you can learn where to download your own copy of the Factory Service Manual to answer this and many other questions.

Meanwhile, Here's a post that may help you.
