Sugar in the AT shifter

I put a cup of pop in the cup holder, and a couple drops got in to the shifter. it's dried out, but the suger is sticky in the shifter. when I select gear after a long time, it makes cracking sound.
anyone has any idea to solve this problem?
5.5th shifter.

thanks.

I can't see what you could possibly do aside from open it up and clean the parts...

just sparyed leather cleaner all over the shifter dust protecter and went through all the gears several times, then, wipe the cleaner out.

let's see will it work.

get a hose and go crazy but be careful about the discombobulator, its right next to the blinker fluid reservoir.
