Noise from Engine Mounts? Front End?
I'm still going through the painful breakin process of my 2K SE 5-speed, currently 600 miles and am hoping that my problem will be one of those which works itself out as things seat, but I thought I'd through this out to the experts in the field and see if others have experinced this.
I'll do my best to describe it, but I may not be too clear.
From a complete stop, upon initial acceleration there is a noise coming from the front, not sure if it is from the engine compartment or the front right wheel area. It's as if something heavy is moving slightly...sort of a clunky sound. I didn't notice it right away, but did particularly beginning Saturday after I brought the car in to have the radio replaced (the Bose unit would not read a CD). While there I asked the dealer to check the alignment, they said it needed adjustment.
I first noticed the noise when driving out, don't recall it before, but not sure either of these services would have caused it either. Thought perhaps one of the lugnuts was not tightened completely, but it wasn't that.
Any thoughts?

it might be the upper spring perch
on one of the front springs. They switched vendors for that part (or the springs) and some 2K maxes dont have the springs seated correctly or the fit was off. Usually you only hear it pop in and out on a turn (if you have the problem). I didnt have it, but Russ did. I think there are two Service Bulletins created in his honor.
There should be a TSB on that. if you had an alignment problem, that would seem to point to that problem.

Re: it might be the upper spring perch
I had simmilar sound when moving about 5mph and turning I would get that creaking noise comming from right front tire.
They said that my strut mount was ripped, so they are replacing the Front Strut Mount and the Strut. In other words the whole strut assembly. Which insludes new strut mount, new bushings, new strut.

I don't think its your mounts...
believe me....I needed both of them replaced due to they "squeak"...yep...thats right they squeak. When I rev the engine of move at slow speeds you hear the mounts chirping as the move to dampen the engine vibration.
Pretty neat to have the engine mounts replaced on a 2 month old car wouldn't you say? Could have sworn I bought a Max instead of a Neon....
