Understanding Maxima stock security

Alright. I need help to understand what the hell my car has and how to get my security alarm to work (Which has done so only once by accident).
01 Max Gle that has a remote starter. Seems like an aftermarket clicker...Left button locks and unlocks. Lights flash and what not. However, I can open the door and nothing will happen when "armed". Right button does nothing. Hold both down and car starts up. Ive tried every combo...A years worth of trying..

Remote start is not OEM correct? If not OEM, remote starter should be located under the dash?

Can I buy a replacement OEM clicker to see if that will arm my system fully?

Thanks

Definetly after market.

So, when you "arm" it, does it lock the doors?

The brain of the unit should be mounted up under your drivers side dash area. It might not have been installed correctly to begin with, so they might not have spliced in all the required wires.

it could be that remote start thats installed is that, remote start only, and keyless entry...

simply it could not be hooked up to the factory alarm.

When I arm it..It does lock the doors. Like I said...One day I locked it using the remote and reached through the window during the day because I didn't have my keys...And the alarm sounded. So it could be possible that the stock alarm is intact and that the add-on is not connected to it.... Then a oem remote should work!

i had a friend with a 4th gen and when he got an aftermarket alarm the oem alarm started freaking out so he just pulled the relay to shut it down. perhaps the previous owner did something along these lines. All of his aftermarket alarm functions worked though. I would take the advice of surraTT and just get a new alarm and get it professionally installed

Can you take a photo of the remote? Maybe someone will be able to narrow down the alarm features from it...

I agree, it sounds like you have remote start only with keyless entry. Physically locking the door, then unlocking it without using the key will set off the factory alarm. I have a Hornet 564T (remote start car alarm with keyless entry), and if I physically lock the doors, then unlock them with Hornet remote, the factory alarm sounds. But if I use the key, all is well.

maybe you locked it from the door button inside of the car that time and that set the alarm.. where the FOB for some reason is connected differently and doesnt arm the alarm... just a thought but that would back up ur findings...
