I assume CV joints are supposed to stay together?



Oops. I think this CV boot was replaced by a shop I while ago, so I'll be looking for some receipts.

 

damn how many miles did that have on it

 

I guess the boot has 30k on it since last year. I've never heard of a CV joint failing before the clicking while turning started you hear on just about every old Honda & Toyota in a bad neighborhood.

 

Whoa! Talk about EPIC Failure!! Check that out really carefully, because I would think something major had to have moved to even allow it to separate that far.

 

I'm going to tow it to a shop and let them see what's up.

 

I had the axles rebuilt on my old Accord at 90k (passenger side) and 105K (driver's side). Other than having one boot replaced at 160K or so, when I sold the car with 280,285 miles on it, both CV joints were working properly and silent.

Sucks that you got so few miles out of yours.

 

thats crazy .. they dont even look new .. mine still look great after 55K miles...good luck man

 

looks like the cv joint is still together and the axle nut came off and the cv axle came out of the spindle to me.

 

They said the half shaft is actually broken and that caused the boot to fail and it threw the bearings all over the place. The shaft is broken before the threads for the axle nut.
