Anyone else interested in a Cattman Y-pipe for a 5.5 Gen?

That's a good description of the sound impact.
1. A Cattman Y with stock catback = hardly noticeable increase in volume, lowering of pitch, mellowing of tone.
2. Same Y with a Cattman catback = noticeable but moderate increase in volume, lowering of pitch, more mellow tone.
3. Same Y with cheap catback that has a short resonator or none at all = significant increase in volume, same lowering of pitch, but the tone will get more harsh.

Oh yes, 8 confirmed orders now, so this is a real deal. I'll give the production order this afternoon and we can expect these to be complete during the second half of April. Now its real, no excuse for holding back - we're eager to accept more backorders so we can make a larger batch.

Hi...can someone please explain the functional benefits of having a Cattman y-pipe (i.e. better sound, power,...) as opposed to the stock y pipe or some other brand? I've heard of the y-pipe being talked about on countless threads, so why is this part so important? Is a stainless steel one better? I have a 2000 Max btw.
Thank You !
Thank You !

i think ill place a pre order...
one question tho.....
im going to gut my pre cats. so with this y pipe. it should be higher gains with gutted pre cats and y pipe, and no main cat at all???
that seems like it would be almost headers minus the precise flow of the headers create???
i might be calling you this week brian!

The Cattman y-pipe flows better than stock, so the main benefit is performance. Our y-pipe for the 02/03 Maxima (and 02-04 I35) is good for 7-9whp, depending on transmission and other performance parts.
Its important because that's a significant performance benefit, and without a y-pipe its left on the table.
Stainless steel tubing is always better than mild steel for exhaust parts. In addition to the anti-corrosive properties, stainless has much better thermal retention than mild steel, which maintains exhaust velocities and reduces power-robbing turbulance.

I'm not going to suggest that a Cattman y-pipe + gutted cats = a Cattman header/y-pipe system, but removing those restrictions (cats) should yield a small performance gain. I'd estimate about +4whp for the pre-cats and about the same for the main cat.
That said, I'll point out two things. Many purchase the YG5A y-pipe because it doesn't disturb any emissions equipment; if that doesn't matter, you might want to consider our header/y-pipe system, which makes 22-25whp. Also, if you gut the pre-cats, you'll have to rig up an O2 simulator to avoid a CEL.

Hey, Brian I was curious what size is the piping after the flex section? It's 2.5"OD correct. I think Ill be placing an order soon as I sale my rims. The flex section on my stock Y-pipe has seperated so good time to upgrade.
#91
My flex section has also seperated, which is a very good excuse to buy a new y-pipe. I'm also strongly considering as soon as I have some extra cash.
#92
We traditionally (years ago) made that short section in 2.25" tubing on all our 95-03 y-pipes, and believe it or not, the performance was equal (to 2.5" tubing) on the VQ35DE and slightly better on the VQ30DE. Something about a little back pressure there seemed to make a positive difference.
Bringing a part back into production like this provides an opportunity to re-examine the design (on the VQ35DE-specific y-pipe), so I'll be taking a fresh look at everything. Obviously our primary goal is to maximize performance.

Let us know as soon as possible so we can include your order in our production total. Remember, when you place a backorder, no $ is paid until the part is ready, and that will be at least 4 weeks from now.

Actually, our customer service is first rate. I don't see running late on the development of a new part as the same thing. I'll be the first to admit there's nothing new about this, we typically run late when trying to get a new part into production for the first time.
I'll also be the first to admit that this y-pipe project has taken significantly longer than anticipated to wrap up, and I apologize for that. For reasons no one would care about, this has been a very complicated project to get underway, and those complexities are reflected in the extended timeline. FWIW, almost all of these issues have been outside my control, but obviously I'm responsible for the results.
There is still got a solid group of backorders behind this project, and for those who can be patient, I'm glad to say that the y-pipes are in production now. Once this process begins, the completion timetable is fairly predictable, and I expect to ship these out during the 14-19 August timeframe. In fact, the first completed unit will be sent out for a final test fit on Tuesday next week (04 August).
I'll be happy to answer any questions.
BTW, just to show that we can still launch a new product successfully, I'll note that we released our new 3" 00-03 Max catback two weeks ago, and customers seem pleased, to say the least. Once that was complete, we began work on the 02/03 Max y-pipe.
