Friday I got the timing advance done on my 01 Gle, and i had half a tank of 89 octane and then filled up to 93 octane right before I got this done. After they did it, everything has been fine and Sunday I filled up full with 93 octane when the car was a little below a half tank. I then drove 300 miles back to school and the car was fine the whole time. Tonight, when I turn the car on it feels like it wants to die and the exhaust note is changing in tone. When I put the car in drive and press the brake while stopped, the car shakes back and forth and is very noticeable. The acceleration and rpms are fine especially when driving, but when I am stopped, the shaking and constant change in exhaust note is worrying me. Sorry If this is a double post, but this is kinda urgent since I'm far from home and there's not a great deal of repair places.
Try to check your coils by disconnecting 1 at a time. If one is not working disconnecting it won't make the engine run worse.

Ok, thanks for the suggestion but I really don't have any tools here at school but I'll maybe get an oil change early and have em do something

You don't need any tools for that, only your hands. All coils connectors are on the top of the engine. OTOH you were probably expecting to hear some snake oil recommendation which doesn't involve any thinking on your account. In this case I can't be of any help and may be you will be better off to leave this to professionals.

Ok, yea I guess I feel kinda dumb now...I was just wondering if anyone had experienced it or knows what causes something like this...I do appreciate you responding and offering your advice. If the problem continues I may very well have to take it in because I am not as mechanically knowledgeable with Nissans as I would like to be.

It didn't really feel like it, but it also kinda felt like the car was gonna die when I started it. But last night I didn't notice the engine shaking much, just the shaking back and forth, but It could have been the engine...

It sure sounds as if a coil pack is going bad. My car was doing that randomly until I got the code read at Autozone and it pinpointed coil #2 as the cause.

Alright now I'm wondering if my coils are really going bad, should I be getting a check engine light soon?

Problem is it won't idle, cuz it dies after 5-10 seconds after start up

Well, you could open throttle a little by hand from the engine bay to keep it up.

hey I had the SAME problem after coming back from Pepboys, there suppose to fix problems not cause. yes everything works perfectly in the car but the shaking is VERY noticeable when your idleing or not moving it feels like ur car is gonna die. for some reason, if you rev your car to around 4-5 rpm, the shaking stops. I don't know why but this stops the shaking but im going to ask pepboys and complain.

To get help here you have to provide additional information, otherwise you can do it just as well yourself. You must know that all the engine needs is fuel and spark, so all is left to figure out details.

If its auto, do check your motor mounts. I had similar problems with my 2k max, the engine use to really shake in drive and in neutral.

Hey, did you have a hole on your front passenger side motor mount? Brought my car to Nissan and they discovered a hole in my engine mount. What did you do with yours? Does it cause shakes in drive as well?

I actually got it figured out...I looked more carefully during the day, cuz the problem started at night, and it was too dark. The clamp holding the intake together by the MAF was loose and the intake wasn't even connected to the engine.
