2000 maxima EGR issues

Hey guys,

my 2000 Max is giving me code po400, EGR.

I have changed my maf, o2 and all the coils.

My car stalls at red lights, usually helps if i put it in neutral.. and there is a distinct exhaust smell from the tailpipe.

Now people are talking about cleaing it, others saying replace the Egr valve and others are talking about a solenoid...
can someone help me diagnos what it could be before i start buying everything?

thanks in advance.

You need to clean out this tube. It is clogged with carbon, and is located under the intake manifold behind the throttle body.

Clean the tube for sure.... most of the time the EGR doesnt fail usually that tube gets so jammed up with carbon it stops flow ... but if your gonna clean it make sure you get it all out

Alright, my car didn't pass smog due to high NOX emissions. The tech said it was most likely the EGR valve. I can't find the damn valve, but I did spot the EGR tube. I checked to see if my EGR tube was clogged and it was clear, all the way down (ran a zip tie down the tube and it pushed freely with a bunch of wiggle room).

Anyone know where the EGR valve is? Or if we even have one on our car? In my research on here I see there is a YES or NO depending on when our car was manufactured. My 2k, was manufactured in late 99, October or November.

The funny thing is I didn't throw any codes? I'll do some more research, but if anyone has any suggestions at this point let me know. I have the throttle body off along with the intake so I have some room to work with at this point, but I do need to get it back together by tomorrow night.

Thanks!

you do have an EGR valve. Nissan calls it the EGR volume control valve. If you have a FSM, a component locator diagram is on page EC21 (section EC, page 21.

If you need to down load a FSM, go here:
http://www.aubreyandcharles.com/ServiceManuals/

You would want to download the early 2000 manual.

Awesome! Thank you. I had the wrong FSM for my Maxima. I see the EGR valve and will get back at it.

Hmm...well I had already pulled that valve prior to looking at the FSM. It didn't look bad or dirty and was still moving.

I cleaned it up, and the EGR sensor in the EGR tube. I got it all back together and took it for a spin, no codes or anything, runs the same. Only different is not more rough idle at a cold start.

I'll put some seafoam in through the brake booster line tomorrow, already put it in the tank.

We'll see what happens with a re-test on Monday. If it still doesn't pass I'll take it to a shop. Don't have time to mess with it any longer...

Thanks for the help.

Alright...now after cleaning the EGR tube, valve, and throttle body, along with a good bit of seafoam cleaning I am throwing a P1480 code.

The shop has no idea what the code is, and neither do I. My search on here and in the FSM manual came up empty. My next step is to call a Nissan dealer and speak to the service department to figure out what the code means. Any ideas?

Nevermind...found it. It looks like a warning for now. I'll reset and see if it comes back.
