So I've had this issue on and off and thought I had gotten the best of it. Well now it's back and it seems it's here for good. Here are the symptoms:

1. Turn Ignition to ACC.
2. Clutch in, turn ignition all the way to start
3. Loud Click from Engine bay and then the lights on the dash start flickering as if there's some kind of power surge.
4. The car doesn't start and the, I disappointedly, cut the ignition off.

Any ideas?

but does the car run well? any other problems, and then have some one stand by the engine bay and see where it is coming from.

 

Check your battery posts. If they're OK check your battery at Autozone or swap with known good one. If the problem persists I'd blame starter.

 

Intermittant problem? Or, at every start up?

Intermittant, then check your connections at the battery. I had a loose positive terminal creating intermittant starting issues. I replace the terminal and all is good now.

Every start up, then get the battery tested along with your alternator.

 

Even if it's constant I give a to the above statement, and don't forget that the two positive connections on the starter selenoid could also be the culprit. Always disconnect the negative battery cable before touching ay of the + wires. Next step if it's not the connections would be to test the battery, to properly do that check the fluid levels, verify it is fully charged by checking voltage, than make sure it has enough amps by doing a load-test, this is the important part. You could always have an autozone do all of those things for no charge, but if you want it done right............
