After doing some reading on here (and getting pissed at a lot of old promising threads that are dead), I'm curious about how the beam patterns of aftermarket HID's are on stock 5th gen housings.. I have a few buddies that have aftermarket HID's on halogen housings (A Pontiac, Dodge, a few BMW's but they have projectors, and a Civic with H4 bulbs) and they're beam patterns are really good.. Just curious on our housings.. Thanks.

Biggest thing I noticed when I had this, is the OEM housings are the best. I bought ebay black housing 00-01 headlights and the HIDs in them were HORRIBLE, in fact 35watt halogen bulbs had better output

Its really not that expensive to do the 2002-2003 headlight retrofit. I did mine for under 200

Before buying anything on Ebay, I would first try them in your original housing while looking for a set of 5.5 gen OEMs. I am new to the Max, but have been doing mods for years and just about anything on Ebay is suspect.

beam pattern with HID retro's in HALOGEN housings WILL ALWAYS SCATTER, and most of the time wont get a good CUT OFF. As far as the projector housings, THE BEAM of an HID bulb in most cases look crisper in those housings anyway

You've got to remember that the projector for the low beam in the ebay headlights is designed for a H3 halogen bulb, so of course it sucks for a HID bulb. I bought some of these projectors and had someone retro in 04 Maxima (E55) bi-xenon projectors, so I had HID highs and lows off a single D2S bulb. Good output, clean cutoff, and no blinding oncoming traffice with glare!

Proper HID Retro > All Else

Under 200?! I haven't found a place to buy a single housing for 200. I used to work at my local Nissan stealership and I even called my buddy there and he told me the best price he could sell to me for was 200... a headlamp lol. Where can I find this retrofit for under 200 you speak of??

DaveVQ.. You're selling your car?! Wait, got any Sterling Mist body parts laying around? =D
