How to remove the HU in a 2k3 with Navi?

I am at a loss and have spent the last 2 hours searching here and just on google to figure this out. Unlike the non navi cars my A/C vents are one solid piece all the way down to the bottom of the navigation unit. I have the shifter cover out and the srews out, the center portion is loose but not popping out. I have already broken one of the vents trying to pop it out and do not want to continue until i can confirm the right way to do it. I cannot figure out how to pop this thing loose. Anyone know how?

Damn good question, actually. Even the FSM doesn't reference Navi removal (though there are ~50 pages or so of interesting stuff about the whole system, diagnostics, calibrations, etc).

Can't find anything in the FSM, on the org, or online...one of the few times search has failed me.

Most likely because of the low number of OEM Navi-equipped 5.5s.

Have you tried looking inside the vents, maybe there are screws there? That or the entire assembly may rotate out at the bottom, with just a hook or pawl above the vents.

Have you tried removing the A/C control and locating any screws there?

it's exactly the same as a regular headunit. You must pull the center vents above the nav screen out just like on a regular non-navi maxima. They are tough to pull out but it will come out. Try to grab in the vents...but not ON the vents cause obviously you will break them. You can try to help pop it out by using a flathead with a cloth on the sides but it usually comes out from pulling on the bottom of the vent. YOU NEED to get this vent out because there are 2 screws that hold the top of the navi unit in.
