Transmission questions
Well I'm taking it to a repair shop this afternoon possible first thing in the morning; however, I want to be on top of my game when take it since repair shops love screwing you over.
First off yesterday morning I started off and my car acted as if it lost all power. It would slowly gain speed then I relised its not changing gears. I could stop at the the stop sign and start off with the pedal floored and it would look as if I was just casually starting off at an easy go pace. Then once I would get it up to 70 MPH it would be running ~4k RPM, let my foot of the gas (to change gears, I remind you I have the pedal floored the entire time) and the RPMs drop, put my foot on the gas and RPMs go back up to where they where to keep pulling the car. So its acting as if its stuck in 3rd gear (I have an AT). If I stop I can't even power shift its still stuck in 3rd. The transmission was low yesterday (for some odd reason, I never hit anything and don't jump my car at stops). I filled it with the ATF fluid for NISSANS (import car ATF). It starts driving like a dream, even when I leave work headed home. This morning same thing, except I put ATF in it and no change, yes it was low. I drive it for few miles, then cut the car off and cut it on again and then it drives good again WTF. So it seems to me as if there is a computer going out or a sensor, but why the low ATF?????
So what do you guys think? Has anyone encountered this problem before?
BTW, yes I am the one that posted about the scratched lenses-I guess I will hold off on that.
Thanks for the imputs

any clue on the low ATF. I understand that if its low its just low, nothing else would cause it unless there was a leak. I will keep the MAF in mind. I knew the MAF would cause it to jerk instead of smooth but i didn't know it would make the tranny stay in 3rd. Thanks for ur input

Sounds like it's going into fail safe mode. Do you see any leaks, any ATF on the ground when you look under the car? What about the cooling system, check and make sure there is no ATF in the cars cooling system. Could have a pin hole in the tranny cooler which is in the radiator. If there is ATF in the cooling system, you'll need to replace the radiator and have the system flushed, both trans and engine cooling systems.

I'll go check that out, I haven't seen any fluid on the ground and I knew the radiator cools the ATF but I haven't thought about it being mixed with the coolant. Thanks for ur input too.

I took it to a transmission shop, they ran codes while I was there and it poped up p0755- Shift Solenoid "B". He told me that if he has to replace one he will have to replace all of the Solenoids (i think he said 5). I know my basic engine work, but this is greek to me-never heard of this stuff before. Round about price installed is $275. Sounds cheap---er than a rebuild. Does this sound right to anyone? Oh i forgot to mention he also said there could be a pinched wire or a bad connection, he will let me know today when he gets it up on the rack.
One thing most important to me is a shop being honest (not to often anymore), he could have easily pulled that code and said yep needs a rebuild or new one and I would not have known the difference. I think I can trust him so we will see what he says.
Thanks for all inputs, I'll keep you all posted on what happens

Let us know how it works out. I'd still be concerned where the ATF went?? Were you checking it the right way? Every car is different. Most can't be checked until they are hot. Some in Park others in Neutral or Drive. Check the owners manual. You gat all kinds of false readings if you check it at the wrong time

I experienced it on the 05 Kia Optima I bought for my son. The car would rev up when you stepped on it but couldn't seem to get out of 2nd gear. I checked and added fluid which didn't help. Our mechanic said it was a bad shift solenoid, which we had replaced. Get it done, the price is decent.

Transmission speed sensor reapir
I had the same symptoms as others- wouldn't upshift at all. But this happend every few weeks and could be 'fixed' by turning off engine for 5 minutes. That would cure it for several weeks.
Then I replaced the speed sensor with a Dorman part. Looked identical.
No problems on installation, but it caused my intermittent problem to become permanent! I disconnected the battery; drove for a couple minutes and then shut off engine. Nothing made the new part work. Took it out and reinstalled the old part. With the old speed sensor installed everything is working.
Got a second 'new' Dorman speed sensor. Same drill, same results. Is Dorman having a quality problem or do i need to say a spell to make the new part work??
Thanks!
