Performance Mods (tax return)

I'm wanting to get more performance out of my 2k3 6mt. I raced my friends 2004 Subaru WRX (non sti) at the track he had a stage-1 chip, intake, and exhaust. I pulled barely through every gear which ended up being a half car length in the end. He has now upgraded to stage 2 but I'm wanting to add a little more power before we race again. I'm looking to get a Place Racing CAI but I can't find where they are sold, anybody know where i can get this? Now as far as headers, y-pipe, high-flow cat, and exhaust what are your recomendations?
Approximately how much will all this increase HP?

Your best bet is to do headers. They're a little expensive, but they will give you the most gain. Also, there was a pre-order for a Cattman 3" exhaust. That with the headers would be the best thing to do, or you could just build a custom 3" exhaust. They have shown some really nice gains on the N/A 3.5s.

i would save up for headers too i think its like 15hp, the NWP spacers and block off plate are pretty good bang for the buck too.

I'm in salt lake too, you should hit me up some time

according to Cattman headers yield a 20-25whp increase for 5.5 gens. To the OP:

I have a 036mt with headers/exhaust/intake/blockoff plate and the car feels totally different compared to stock. I pull on a lot of cars but then again I also have a fidanza flywheel and SPEC stage 3 clutch. But even before those tranny mods, I noticed a huge difference with the headers/exhaust/blockoff plate and intake. They add new life to the car

I got 40 HP peak, tuned, with headers, then got about 15 in the mid range with the spacers.

intake ($100), spacers ($125), timing advance ($20-40), Headers and y-pipe (cattman $800), big bore Maf ($80), custom 3" catback ($250-300) and there you go, you now have a solid 13s car with probably 250-260whp

You will need a tuner, UTEC is a good one

Do you think tune is necessary to achieve results?? I have Cattman Headers, 2.5" y-pipe, high flow cat, and megan racing 2.5" exhaust.

At the track a stock turbo 2.0wrx with a stage2 set-up should have you as this is a proven and consistent low to mid 13 second set-up (driver factor). On the highway it's a whole other story as the stage 2 will only net your friend anywhere from 94-100mph trap speeds. This is a basic stage 2 set-up which includes downpipe, cat-back and tune.

Headers and a tune are your best bet. I dunno if the 3" exhaust would show the same gains with the stock manifold and cats in place.

We don't know how much the OP is looking to spend.

IIRC you guys have a built wide band o2 built in with the car and the ECU can read it and adjust it.

'04.5 for the Z33. Maxima started using widebands with the A34, and for the Altimas 04+ for the QR, and 05+ for the VQ.

FWIW his car made 250whp with just I/H/E and the flywheel, no tuning.

Place Racing hasn't made intakes for years. Occasionally one becomes available used, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Mine went with my maxima when it was sold.

As to your friend....if he said he has a "stage 1 chip" ...:/ . Subarus are generally made "stage 1" with a protune, AccessPort, or opensource tune. No chip is involved, just a cable to the OBD port. Intakes on WRXs aren't really good for any power, and often LOSE power due to messed up A/F.

A well-tuned Stage 2 wrx can put down 275-300whp and run in the high 12s with a good driver...
