Hit Curb on 2001 I30

I was driving home this evening in snow and hit the curb at about 10MPH-just lost total control in snow. After this I noticed that the steering was just going crazy. Also, the car was making a lot of grinding noise as if I was driving on the edge of the highway if I drive faster than 5MPH. I will take it to the mechanic tomorrow but am I potentially looking at some serious $$ to get this fixed?

Do you guys suggest I take it to an Infiniti dealership? I never had any luck with any local mechanics around where I live(Western Philly burbs). I have about 75,000 miles on the car.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

you probably will need to do alignment. I suggest you inspect the area and check for broken parts. Take a crap load of non-blurry pictures too.

could have done a lot of things. best case is you bent your rim and it is rubbing on something. another likely issue is you did some damage to the steering rack which is no bueno ($1k+).

unless you want to jack it up and look for bend or broken parts your probably wont be able to tell until a mechanic looks at it

i would almost never using the stealership to get repairs done, especially if it is coming out of your own pocket, but i cant help much with a shop in philly so maybe someone else on the org can come through for you

Hey man that happened to me last winter, I took it to the dealer and they told me the control arm was bent and it was going to be almost 1K for parts and labor, I went under the car at the dealer and did not see any damage, I told them I need it to get the money together and will come back in 2 days. The "helping" manager told me he will give me a loaner while that, I said no thanks I'll come back later........the same day I took it to mufflerman for a alignment, 65 dollars later problem was fixed. nothing bent. My advice, go under the car; if you cannot see any damage try the cheapest fix first (alignment).

Thanks a lot guys. I didn't take my car to the mechanic since roads were still a bit icy this morning. I will take it first thing tomorrow morning. Hopefully it's something small!

crazy steering is one thing, grinding is another. If it jacked up enough to be touching something else you probably bent something fairly major.

My wife hit a curb several years ago in her Accord in the ice in a residential neighborhood. Bent and broke a chunk out of the wheel, popped the tire, bent the control arm and tweaked that half of the engine cradle.

Just got a call from the mechanic. He said the inner and outer tie rod ends need to be replaced. Asked him to put the aftermarket ones. Will set me back by about $350. Hope that there is nothing else messed up!

Man did you get lucky if it was only tie rods and alignment.
Exactly a month ago there was a snow storm here in Minnesota and I hit the inside of my passanger wheel on a median's curb.
It broke about 9 inches of the inner lip of my rim off ($95 new rim)
bent a control arm badly(something like $160 i think)
bent a strut ($80 i think)
ripped my boot (cv joint) and broke the cv shaft too ($55)
and heres the real B**** that drilled a hole in my pocket:
I bent the tip of my front suspension crossmemeber aka K-Frame (162 or so for just the part)
All in all, I took it to a good friend of mine whos a mechanic who really came through for me this time.
Ended up costing me a little over $800
Oh I also had to do alighnment ($50)

CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY AS HEC
