small leak from main seal maybe?

hey i am experiencing a small oil leak from under my car dripping down the metal shield towards the front pas side and ive been looking around the internet for a solution and came accross this...now answer me this, will this work? anyone ever try it?

helper guy said
Mine dripped from there and it was the rear main seal.I'm too lazy to replace it so I added a half bottle (4-6oz.)of brake fluid to my oil.It hasn't leaked in over a year now.I love that trick.

What does the brake fluid do? I'm down to try whatever. I put some stop leak in there today so we'll see what happens. It's not leaking from where the rear main seal should leak from though as you can see the whole front is clean. It looks like it's running down from the back side.

My Dad builds and races cars in CT.He told me brake fluid swells the seals up better than anything else.My van was leaking a bottle of power steering fluid a week and it stopped that leak to.It's worth a try and won't hurt anything.
so what do you guys think, is this legit? would it work

thanks

Front main seal is on the passenger side, and the rear main is on the transmission side. The front main is much easier to fix, but first check your oil pan gasket while you're down under the car looking for the source. Use a rag and clean as much as you can, then check again in a couple days, the source of the leak should be more visible.

Don't put brake fluid in the oil. Just don't. It might work for the iron block you-can't-kill-me Jeep motors, but in our higher tech aluminum blocks...it's not worth the risk. You can't exactly find a replacement block for $50 like the Jeep guys can.

Lets get a picture. I would get some auto degreaser and clean up the area where you see leaks real good.

If this is where the leak is from you just have to drop your aluminum oil pan that attaches to your trans axle.

What 'metal shield' are you referring to? You didn't give an exact location as to where you see the fluid, so it really could be anything.

Are you VQ30, VQ35? Auto, 5/6 speed?

What does the fluid look like? Smell like? Motor oil? Trans fluid/gear oil?

You need a lot more detail than you've given.

I was told that if it is the rear seal, the transmission will have to be removed to fix the leak. However, if it is the main seal, it is much easier to fix.

Can you post more pics/description?

Assuming it's the RMS, then yes, the trans and the upper oil pan have to be removed. However, the RMS rarely leaks, it's usually the upper oil pan seal that's directly underneath the RMS.

What do you mean main seal? Are you referring to the rear main seal as the 'rear seal', and the front seal as the 'main seal'? Yes, the seal around the snout of the crank is much easier to change, as it's seated right into the front timing cover, very easy to get to.

I meant front seal. Sorry for the confusion.
