Boo For Accidents :-(

The other driver and I are fine. No other passengers in either car.

I was heading out have dinner with some friends. Other driver made an unprotected left and didn't yield. Luckily, I slammed the brakes and swerved left otherwise I would most likely t-boned him. This makes a good case for the upgrades I have done over the years: RE960 tires, Eibach springs, Tokico Illuminas, Brembo slots & HPS pads

Here's the Toyota Camry I hit. Dude is VERY lucky I moved left to avoid t-boning him

This was at night, so not sure to what extent the damage is. I know the car is leaking coolant as well as damage to the headlight, bumper, bumper cover, hood, and fender. Maybe radiator as I think the coolant overflow is behind the washer tank. Will go to the yard tomorrow and pop the hood.

Stay safe out there ladies & gents!

Dunno why I'm calm. I'm more pissed than anything. Crap happens, just have to move on.

Damn, $2000 damage for that?!? Now I'm scared. I just priced out my car and I think its worth approx $7k (no surprises here). But now I just realized damage could be anywhere from $4-7k (based on what I think..I'm no professional) which isn't good.

I dont think it'll be that much. Ive done, uh uh I mean seen $6K of damage on the front of a car before. What sucks is the major body components arent too expensive, until they get to the paint shop. I don't think it'll be much over $3K.

Glad everyone's fine. Good thing you swerved or your whole front end is gonna be damaged and might even pop the bags out. The other dude got insurance right?

Yeah that's definitely not $4-7k worth of damage.. My BMW is gonna cost me $2700 to fix, and they have to remove everything from the back windshield/windows to the trunk so they can chop off the rear quarter panel and the entire driver's door frame and weld new ones on there making sure to match the body lines, replace the rear bumper, replace the door handle, some miscellaneous trim pieces, and paint....Front fenders/bumpers are cheap and your headlights are really cheap...I definitely don't see this being more than $3k in damages.

damn man sorry to hear that...I know I had an accident back in 2007, where i almost t-boned some woman because the city took down the stop sign at the corner. I slammed on brakes and it shaved my license plate off, and the license plate bracket, and it LIGHTLY skimmed the rear driver side of her prius. only the side though....it skimmed off a tad of paint

Thats what it looked like

I have to commend you and your evasive maneuvering skills to keep the damage to a minimal to your car. I can't say much for the other driver I hope everything will work out for you.

Thanks for all the kind words. Yeah, I didn't ask the cops but I'm they put him at fault. I know it was his fault, he initially did not agree with me, so suggested we get the cops out here document everything, etc. I wasn't speeding, but I over heard the cop telling the other driver while getting his statement if he's driving 100mph you still have to yield. I'm going through my insurance which whom is contacting his insurance.

I checked out the car today. The damage seems very minimal. The front bar holding the radiator is slightly bent along with the portion fender that its mounted to. I'm guessing its part of the car and the shop will probably need to straighten it. I couldn't find any damage on the radiator. The coolant reservoir tank probably sustained damage since its mounted to the fender.

Quick question. Anyone with HID upgrades, did you install relays to power the low beams? I have the service manuals and could easily do the wiring, but am wondering if the current draw when the ballast turns on would exceed what the head light harness was designed to provide. I am aware that overall current draw is less than halogens.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the technology. We have the capability.

Estimated total is $4800 of damage. Just signed off to go ahead with the repairs. Front rail is being replaced up to the first weld. Bumper mounts, bumper, absorber, bumper cover will all come as an assembly from another maxima. Rest of the parts will either be pulled back into shape.

Wow, $4800?

I'd take that money sell the Maxima as it sits for probably about $1500-$2000k.

Use that money and possibly throw in another $2-$3k and upgrade?

Just a thought.

While that's not too bad of an idea, I have no need to get rid of this car. I didnt realize the value has dropped so much. I would have easily expected 8, but seeing what similar cars are going for I am a bit surprised.

I just bought an 05 mr2 5mt for my weekend driving. I drive a lot and would rather put the mileage on my maxima and drive an automatic through la traffic.

Yeah, its a lot ($300 of that is towing and storage from the towing co). This shop is my insurance co's preferred shop and they have done good work for me in the past. So, no complaints here.

Glad to hear your ok.

Looks like its time for a CF hood ($580) smoked front bumper lights ($30) and black backround headlights ($167). With the left over money from buying those parts get a stillen lip or drop springs :-).

If anyone has Before & After pics of HIDS installed, can you please send them my way. I need from the exact same angles too. Problem is that I have only acquired one HID headlight (passenger side, still looking for a cheap driver's side) and the body shop is going to reshape the passenger side of my hood to the contour the HID headlight. I know HIDS fit better, so I have already told them not to look at the driver's side halogen housing.

Or if anyone in socal has a spare housing which I can borrow or an HID assembly in good condition to sell me asap, that would be great too

Thanks in advance!
