Pre-cats/Exhaust manifold interchangeablility

Ok, i got a problem with my pre cat from my understanding of this and instead of replacing it, i would rather put my money into a set of headers....although i am NOT going to pay more than 300 for them...Does anyone know if the 99 headers will work on a 2000?

does anyone know if...

Does anyone know if a "precat" from a 3.5 will bolt up to a 3.0 and work the same?

They'll bolt up fine. They're the same exact engine except for the IMs.

I'm showing the same part #, so I would say yes. I'll look more into it and report back.

I BELIEVE the only one that will work is the front precat....the one closest to the radiator....The one in the y pipe is different

Yeah, he's right. CourtesyParts has the same part # listed for the 00-03 on the diagram, but when you click on the part, they are different.

Also, not sure if it applies here or not, but they have Cali and Fed spec differences, you gotta make sure to look into that, and take it into account.

They must be made of Gold, because those things are $$$$$

Are you Fed or Cali spec?

Only the Cali spec precats/exhaust manifolds are interchangeable between the 3.5 and 3.0. But with the correct parts, you can use some combination of Fed and Cali spec components.

Both pre-cat/exhaust manifold threads merged.

To clarify, I have gen 3 headers from a 99 on my car. I drive an 03. I didn't order the 99 version but cattman sent me a set with the egr port on it so I thought right away that I had to send them back. I called Brian and he assured me that the headers were identical excpet for the EGR port. So he credited me the price of the plug for that bung. I have had no fitment issues since the install. So 95-03 all work, only difference is the EGR port on the rear collector

Why do you believe they were specifically for a '99? With the EGR bung it's for '95-'00.
