coilover question

whats the deal with coilovers, this may seem like a dumb question, but ive never actually paid much attention to coilovers and i am just wondering what they are all about. when you buy coilovers, are you replacing both struts and springs with a single unit, or do you still need springs with them? like i said, I KNOW NOTHING about coilovers, just normal suspension upgrades (example: eibach springs and tokicos), just not coillovers. inform me!

Re: coilover question

Most consist of an aluminum sheath and springs that fit over stock and/or aftermarket struts.
They are also adjustable, meaning you a set whatever ride height you want…usually from 0-3 inches.

Re: thanks for the info!

They have them...so do many other companies.
Expect to spend $400 and up, depending...

forgot to ask.........

if when i lower the car say 1.3 in the front and 1 in the back or 1.5 in front and 1.2 in back...(and so on and so on), wouldnt i need to adjust camber and all that stuff? if i was to just get some eibachs and have a local shop install them, wouldnt they adjust camber and everything if needed?

No need to get camber plates if you're lowering it less than 2".

Ground Control has a set for the Max, but you have to call them and ask for it.

you can get camber bolts, but you really don't need to adjust the camber with a drop like that....

I don't think that it's fair to call ground control coilovers. I think that they are more of just a height adjustable spring collar. REAL coilovers have a fully threaded shock body, custom made shock bodies and valving to meet the spring rates of the shocks. YOu are comparing a $400 product like Ground Control springs vs. a $1500-2000 product like a true coilover suspension.
