Did mine three weeks ago. All kinds of crap in it, feather, dust, etc.

Took about 15 minutes. Kind of a PITA!!!

You know, I really wish I would have stuck my hand in there and checked when I had it all apart. I bet there WAS a pile of **** in there I could have swept out. Oh well. I'll let you know at 400,000.

haha yea. i asked him if they were oem, and he said that he was told they were nissan, but can't guarantee it. so i'm pretty sure its aftermarket. price is great though so i'm going to get a set myself!

So i finally got around to changing my filters last weekend, or shall i say INSTALLING my filters, since my 01 AE didn't come with any in-cabin air filters at all!! It was actually pretty easy, i followed the directions from the first page and was finished the job in less than 15 mins. It probably would have been faster if i didn't have to pull out the ShopVac and clean out the HUGE PILE of leaves, twigs, branches, and dead bugs in there!!
I got my filters from ebay (i think the seller was "aircabinman" or something like that) they were about 15 bucks total with shipping, couldn't beat that. It doesn't matter to me if they are aftermarket or not, as long as they keep me from breathing in all that dirt and bug guts that was in there...

Here is a link to an expired auction that I got my filters from. Came super quick (before my CC charge showed up!) and installed OEM like. I got them for my wifes Rav and my maxima. Both installed fine!

Why would that be needed? Mine came with the housing to drop the filter in. Doesn't yours?

I wonder if mine is that bad? I had it changed at 35k miles and I have about 130k now. I heard you can now get them at either advance auto parts or O'Reiley but not sure.

They were an option in 00/01 and I know they became standard in 02. I took mine out about a year ago, it was not that dirty so I just cleaned it out and washed it down with a hot/soapy towel. Let it air dry and that did the trick for me!

Just changed mine a few days ago. 78,000 miles without changing it and even then it's extremely dirty. I had to vacuum the bottom part of the box in front of the filter because of how many large sticks there were sitting there. Gross.

The original filter is reuseable

Hi,
After owning 3 4th generation Maximas, I've recently purchased a 2002 SE.
The car came standard with the in cabin microfilter, which was a reuseable filter, but unfortunately mine was missing. I was thinking of sourcing an original equipment one from a recycler as I'd rather be able to wash and reinstall it instead of having to buy a new filter when needed, but wondered if anyone still has the original washable filter in their car, has cleaned it over the years, and can vouch for it's durability. If the things just fall apart over time I'll buy a disposable, which is all that Nissan (and aftermarket I guess) offer now.
Thanks

I cleaned mine a couple of times and already it was starting to degrade fast. I went ahead and replaced it with some cheapos off Ebay. They work great and are less than half the price of Auto Zone and Advanced.

Thanks for the reply. I also found a thread which discussed cutting a furnace filter to dimension and using that..I like the idea

I just got something in the mail for 49.99 for service and new in cabin filtor - I'll probably get this done when I go in for my next oil change - I'm sure the filter being "in cabin" has an effect on the air quality and smell - I just rolled over 94k so I think this will be time to get this service done - That 200k filter looked like a mess

It still doesn't make sense to me why they were an option in 00/01. My 00 didn't have one and mine started to develop a moldy smell. I purchased the ebay filter 5k miles ago and cleaned all the debris out. I'm still waiting for the smell to dissipate.

I've cleaned mine at LEAST once every year since i bought the car new.

The filter that came IN the car, was a P.O.S. -- like the flimsy one shown on housecor's site.
THe STD filter is SUPPOSED to be a carbon-activated filter, which these were not!
The CA filter has a heavy duty black plastic FRAME around it, that interlocks in the vent housing. There is NO mistaking which one is better.
i was pissed when I found that Nissan Cheaped-out on me....my WINDOW sticker even SAID: Carbon Activated In-cabin filter.
Imagine my suprise when I go to buy one, and Nissan wants $50.

Anyway - i rectified THAT situation quickly.

Keeping this thing clean to me, is not the easiest task, but it's certainly not hard either.

I like to breathe FRESH air!!
