#&!* Speed Limiter!!!!

Okay, so I finally get to a road suitable for testing my car's maximum speed. It's a county road in the middle of NOWHERE and it's smooth cement with very gradual turns and hills. So I go for it. About 132-133 mph my car cuts out. HUH??? I wasn't even at 5K rpm either. Come on!! Mind you, I don't drive that fast all the time, but it's all part of owning a nice, fast car, right? My '97 Prelude topped out (redline) at 143 mph and only had 195 h.p.

So what's the deal with the speed limiter and how the heck do I get RID of it???

Weren't the GXE's were governed down to only like 108mph because of liability issues with the stock tires?? (this guy says he got all the way up to 130)

I rememebr reading somewhere here (way way way back) of someone with an auto SE that claimed they were governed to around 130ish mph..., don't know if there was ever any conclusive explanation.

I've personally taken my car (auto 2k SE) up to ~142/143... it sure felt like i might be able to squeeze out at least another 2-3 mph if I had enough road. The stock tires(Blowtenzas) are supposedly rated for 149+ .

Any idea on what the drag limit on a 222hp car in sedan form factor is? (ie. if it were possible to ditch the rev limiter, how much faster could you expect to go).. i'd imagine it's not that far past 150mph..

Re: #&!* Speed Limiter!!!!

I don't know either... I've had mine to 151MPH.
It took a while to get there, and then I ran out of road.
But, never hit any rev limiters...just a lot of bugs.

I have a '01 GLE. Doesn't have a limiter on it to my knowledge. I've down over 140mph on it already and it hasn't cut out..

What does this gadget let you do in addition to the obvious engine revs and speed measurement.

I don't understand why some of you keep denying this.

The automatic SE's are limited at 132 mph. I have a picture of my auto with Ryan taking a picture of it while we hit it a few times.

If anyone wants the Level Ten Tranny w/ full Stage 3 rebuild, and warranted by Level Ten for 1 year, let me know. I will need stock tranny, and $2800 + shipping for it.
What car do you have to part out Hogan?

That's sucks... I have 16" H Rated tires on my '01 GLE.. Done over 140 with them.. So it doesn't sound like I have a speed limiter. Why is it that some people are getting it and others aren't?

That's where GPS comes in handy. Just go to the local best buy and grab a Garmin E-trex. It measures your speed in MPH (or KPH).

I believe you'll find that around 130-140 mph the speedometer will be about 5 mph off. In other words, if your speedometer says 143 mph, you're actually doing 138.

I've checked my speedometer and it's 2 mph off in town and 3 mph off at around 70 mph. After that, the difference in actual speed and measured speed gets greater. So if I want to be doing exactly 70 mph then I set my cruise for 73.

ECU... I think it's power, ignition, rpm, and one or two more wires. Search on google, I found a step by step instruction last week (on an MR2) with the old RSM.

Yeah, the one you were selling was at a good price because it was the new one. People mistake the old one with the new one because they have no idea.

The new RSM looks so much nicer... should be arriving this week.

Done with the piping yet?

aahh... i see.... I bet you could access those wires elsewhere also. It may be easier than digging down through to the ECU. I am sure the FSM would help with that.

Yeah, I'll be looking at the FSM for the wires. I wouldn't mind splicing/tapping from the ECU... we'll see.

Piping, came up with an idea to get flanges made so the couplers won't slip off... just experimenting around

Wasn't meant as anything against you Hogan, just trying to give people other options. I really want one of the new ones, but I'm trying to SCRAPE together enough money for the old one right now, since I just put over $1000 in other mods into the max during the past week...
