uh oh.......(Front Strut Bar)
uh oh.......(Front Strut Bar)
My dad just got a Courtesy Nissan strut bar in the mail for is 2000 I30 and, started to install it on his car. Hes actually in the garage right now. Anyway, he put the bolts on the ring on losely then adjusted the bar and secured it in place with the two bolts. Thats when he realized one of the bolts on the ring was right under the bolt holding the bar. So, when he went to remove the bar bolts, the one side wouldn't budge. I don't know what hes going to do now, but hes up in the garage cursing right now
.
Oh yeah BTW he also got Eurolights which installed fine, and work good, but I haven't seen them yet.
Also, I am trying to get him to drop his car a few inches, but I doubt he will do it. Maybe he will get a body kit atleast. Oh well, it will be several years before I will be able to afford a Maxima
unless someone wants to give me their Maxima and get a 2k2.

In the last thread about torque wrenches and FSTBs, I particularly pointed out the thing about the one bolt that you had to install facing the other direction to leave clearance for the wrench to tighten it.
Explain the situation he's in now with some more accuracy. What bolt is stuck? What won't loosen?
i just finished last weekend.
i got the same problem. After that, i didn't follow the instruction.
I took out the bar unit first, and just put 2 end-plates first and tight the 6 red bolts first (in ur pic). then adjust the bar and put into the end-plate, tight the blue bolt at the end. and just make sure the FSTB can't move anywhere. hope it'll help.

oh well too late now. he installed the bar, but just didnt torque the one bolt that is stuck under the left bar bolt. he put the 5 other bolts on properly so i doubt that any wheels on his car will fly off when we are driving at high speeds.

Uh, so didn't you say you were hoping to get him to lower the car? Not if he can't take off the FSTB.
Man you up there on your computer while your dad's cursing in the garage? come on now........... respect the old man and let him curse you out and the car, and then you can do the same with your kids......

I personally want ALL bolts connected to my suspension to be on properly...I guess I'm a sissy.

Can you take the bolt out of the bar and put it in the other direction? Or take it out, torque the bolt properly and reattache the bar.

No, the bolt connecting the bar to the end brace seized and won't come off. 5 of the 6 bolts on the tower are torque to 35ft/lbs, but the one bolt which I can't get to (because the bar is in the way)is hand tightened with a had wrench to what feels like the other bolts.
Should I be concerned???
Thanks

That looks like it was designed by a child or something...

I ran into exactly the same problem last night when installing the FSTB. When I realized the problem, I attempted to unscrew the bolt that holds the bar and I couldn't do it...when I tried real hard the bolt broke in half. I had to get another bolt from my local H/W store. I tightened the nut under the bar first with torque wrench and the rest of the install went fine.
