Would appreciate some help with codes P0138, P0139.
I've been getting them for the past year or so, and am in the process of purchasing a new O2 sensor from the Dealer, or possibly DaveB.

I have the special O2 sensor socket to simplify the job, and have changed several sensors in the past.....what I need help with is the possible ECM re-programming procedure after replacing the sensor.

I've done a lot of research on this, and came across Service Bulletin: NTB02-051, which states that after replacing the O2 sensor the ECM must be reprogrammed with a Consult II.

My theory, is that I would not need to re-program the ECM after replacing the O2 sensor, because last year I had the dealer replace the Mass Airflow Sensor, Part #: 22680-2Y001, and a complete ECM reprogramming was done immediately after.

My car does not have California specs with the two rear O2 sensors, instead it's a Fed spec with only one rear O2 sensor "Canadian Specifications".

Will the ECM need to be reprogrammed "again", or will it accept the new O2 sensor and adjust to the old reprogramming?

Your help with this will be greatly appreciated.

By the way....I have cleared the code countless times with an OBDII reader, only to have it come back a few weeks later.

 

Replace the sensor and clear the code.
Your good to go.

So, the re-programming doesn't have to be redone because it was done last year with the MAF sensor replacement?

The factory reflash takes care of all of it. It did for my 02. It's probably the same for 5th gens.

 

If you check the version of the ECM program you have from the receipt of when you got your MAF replaced (or call and ask) you should be able to find it on the O2 sensor TSB. It will either be in the category of upgrade or don't upgrade and I would bet that yours does not need to be upgraded.
