changing battery cables?

I have the haynes manual but it doesn't go into detail at all. Can battery cables be replaced easily without removing a bunch of stuff from the engine? Reason I want to try this - my car sometimes doesn't start, and although the battery is new, and the posts are clean connections, something is intermittent near the positive battery post. If I wiggle it, sometimes the car starts, sometimes it doesn't, and often I get sparks and clicking sounds from the passenger side of the engine (relays?).
