Bringing 01 in line with 03s performance

I've been considering a CAI, warpspeed y-pipe, and a VB mod. Would the gains be enough to get the 3.5 feel? I've driven the 03 (in the family) and i love how it feels once i step on it...

no it wasn't a race per se. It was more of a test...late at night when there aren't any cars on the streets

No drag strip in MA so I drive to another state that has one, just because there is no place to race doesn't make it leagal or safe.

eppping nh is the closest to mass right over the border. and also the vg35de have a larger performance selection of parts for the engine.

Just delete this before you get banned for talking about illegal street racing which is absolutely not tolerated in this forum.

It's only a half liter difference, but the only substitute for cubic inches is forced induction or nitrous. It may be a 3 liter motor, but you can cram more than 3 liters into it.

Again, this is not about racing but about performance. All i asked was whether the above mentioned mods are enough to bring the 01 in line with 03s performance?

i think they wanted me to delete my post, which i did. But seriously people i was not saying to go out and do it, or that i do it, just saying that it does happen. If there were more dragstrips then it wouldnt happen. simple as that.

I agree with you guys saying street racing is stupid, but I don't see the where he actually said he was racing... He want's to know how to make his 01 get the power/feel of an 03 modification wise

*edit* maybe I missed it?

lol lets all pretend this was a sanctioned drag race at a dragstrip and just help the man out....NWP is coming out with a hardware kit so you can use the intake spacers from the 4th gen on your 5.0 gen (10 hp)....a nice exhaust system with headers, y pipe, and high flow cat along with a tune could net some decent gains (maybe 15-20 hp)....add the fact that you'll have to run 93 octane (or 91 if you dont have it) and you should be looking at numbers close to a 5.5 gen (02-03). Since this will be at a dragstrip ( ) I would say remove your spare tire and everything from your trunk to cut down on weight....hell if your kinda hefty go on a diet lol that'll prolly be the biggest weight reduction you can do without taking all your seats out.

what part of this qs dont you understand? The qs (AGAIN) is about bringing 01 close 03s performance. If you cant contribute, fine. But don't criticize and accuse others. Why dont you go nag about in other headers and y-pipe threads...those are all illegal mods .

I read somewhere the gains from spacers are marginal but if those numbers are dyno proven then

lol i was serious about the weight thing! for real though think about how much you, the driver add to the cars weight...a 250lb person is gonna make a car slower than a 175lb person....75lbs is like taking out seats....granted most of us (hopefully) dont have 75lbs to lose lol

...i did....i told him some mods, and even suggested he lay off the donuts ...remember the "driver mod" is the most important mod you can make in any case

CAI wannabes from Injen and Stillen will net you minimal hp gains as well, theyre more for the sound...also if your not overly concerned about airconditiong and heating (once again for drag cars only, not daily drivers) you can remove your ac unit but will need new drive belts...could net 10-15 hp...not sure how much the ac unit robs our cars but my buddy has a 1992 Z28 camaro and he took out his ac...30 more hp at the wheels...dyno proven

i want daily driver so that means the donut + all the necessary accessories stay. I don't want to overly mod it. Just want to gain enough ponies to match the 3.5L maximas

then intake, although your better off making your own and not buying one (ripoff)...id say full exhaust system and a tune would bring you as close to the VQ35DE as you can get without boost....which is a whole nother story....

you might have more power from the modification, but the torque wont change unless you turbo/super charge it

yea i was referring to that post....but the donuts stay either way.
So theoretically speaking and being a bit conservative
warpspeed y-pipe = 15 hp
Intake (GAB?) =5 hp
spacers = 10 hp
thats around 30 more hp (top end) over a stock 01 under $500

should be enough?

a GAB will not get you 5hp lol but a custom made "CAI" with a cone filter from either apexi or k&N should get you 5-7 hp.....and aaron from NWP has yet to put a launch date for the hardware kit for the 4th gen spacers so 5.0 gens can use them....youre prolly gonna want to get it all installed at once since it all involves some engine work (obviously)

good point....you could also throw on an OS CAI which would prolly give you the +10 whp youre looking for from a moded intake
