pilot bushing on an 02 auto max engine

cant remove the pilot bushing from an 02 automatic engine I bought in a junk yard to replace in my 6 speed maxl. I tried using a piot bushing removal tool with a slide hammer but no success. Any suggestions?

The autos don't have a pilot bushing.

Either way, don't worry about it. The 6MT input shaft doesn't extend far enough to require a pilot bushing.

Are you referring to the bushing for the torque converter?

Have you test fit the flywheel yet? As long as the flywheel slips over it, it shouldn't be an issue.

Looking at the FSM you will have to remove the sleeve for the TC and install the pilot bushing for the manual.

Jeez.......I don't know what else to suggest. Are you using an actual expanding type puller with a slide hammer attached, or is it more of just catch the backside lip of the sleeve type operation? If you can get a good purchase on the backside lip and keep working around the circumference, it seems to me that it will eventually start to come. Can you beg, borrow or steal an expanding/threaded jacking screw type puller?

It shouldn't be in there all that tightly, have you tried removing it as you would a pilot bushing?

Fill the end of the crank up with grease, hammer in a dowel.
