Getting a high pitch metal on metal squealing/grinding sound while turning your car at full lock? Could be the Steering Bump Caps.

This is a simple 5 minute DIY that will help you replace your broken, worn, or missing bump caps.

FIY the Murano bump stop caps have an outer metal shell which are less prone to breaking and cost the same IIR.

 

Good to know. I would've bought them if I hadn't replaced mine a few weeks back.

 

I would have bought them if I had known, but these will be fine... for the cost of the part, its not a big deal at all, especially since I bought a spare...

 

After your pic with the red circle indicating where they were, I was like, "what am I looking for"....then your last pic said all.

Surprised it's that easy...thought you would have to crawl up into the rack.

Is there a specific part from a hardware store that could serve the same purpose? They aLmost look like the plastic feet on the bottom my clothes dryer that I replaced a few months ago from Ace Hardware.

 

A dab of grease shuts it up for a few months too. Cost=.000000001

One of the best/cheapest/easiest fixes of all time. Could never figure out what the grinding sound was while turning, and the whole time it was that my caps were missing. Haven't heard the sound since and that was almost a year ago.

 

My car is missing its bump caps but no grinding/squealing on full lock due to a bunch of grease and other "stuff" but there is a kind of faint vibrate or humming noise when pushing full lock. I'm guessing this is normal. At least I hope it is because we all know how excellent the turning radius is.
