Strange problem: Brake light on, hard pedal

Had something strange happen this morning on my 02 Max. Stopped at Arco (I'm broke) this morning to get some fuel on the way to work. I got back into the car started her up and noticed the brake light was on. I yanked on the E-brake a few times to see if it would clear and it wouldn't. Figured it was probability a taillight or something (Seen it before on other cars). I hit the brake pedal to see if it felt weird and it was hard as a rock, as if the brake booster wasn't working at all. I then tried to move the car over to a parking space, problem is drive wasn't there; the transmission just freewheeled.

I was able to drive into work after turning off the car, removing the key and waiting about 10 seconds. After restarting the brake light was off and the car drove normally. I'm just wondering if this is a symptom of something to come or just another strange quirk of Nissan over-engineering.

Possible that the brake booster has gone (or has a leak), or that one of your calipers is stuck.

Thing is the car has operated fine since yesterday morning. Does anyone know if there is by chance a valve or something that would cut off the brake booster?

If it was a single caliper, the fluid would still displace into the others so you can rule that out. It sounds like a freak brake master cylinder problem. The intermittence of it kind of points to dirty fluid (ie: a blockage)
