What is your highway RPM?

My mom's honda odyssey gets about 2000 rpm at 70mph.

in my i35, thats 75mph at 2700 rpm.

Just curious for all you 5.5s out there, is this a normal rpm? i mean i see all 4 gears go, so do we just have lower ratios?

Yeah odysseys have ridiculous gearing. 1st gear ends at 50 mph...

50 is 1500 rpms and 80 is 2400 in my 6-speed.

27MPG, and yes, they jipped us by not letting us have the 5AT in the 5.5 gen. 5.5 gen is ~ 2k RPM / 60MPH.

Come on dude, an Odyssey?

My 2001 Auto GLE is spinning at

40 mph 1750
50 mph 1750
60 mph 2200
70 mph 2500
80 mph 2900

I'm trying to figure out what is wrong, as I think my engine is spinning too fast and sucking too much gas.

So, in the end, your RPM's are fine, and the Honda has far superior (for highway travel/MPG) gearing.

Damn I havent posted here in a long time. I cant go under 70MPH on the highway. The smoothness fools me lol, half the time Im looking at the road thinking Im doing 60-65, but when I look at the speedo, its about 75-85.. Damn I love the max..

BTW Im a 2K Auto GLE (Due for a drain/fill of transmission fluid.)

Sometimes I flucutuate speeds, but when I dont this is what it looks like

65 - 2100
70 - 2400
75 - 2600

And terrible for around town...I borrowed my friend's when my BMW was broken and my maxima was in another town to deliver for the job I used to work for, and holy crap it was ridiculous. They have like 240 hp, but their gearing is LOOOOOONG. It pretty much would never shift out of first gear until 30 mph...and it wasn't anywhere near redline which is at 52 mph, i think. Any other speed around town it was idling. lol. Any increase in speed and it would downshift.

haha looks like my RPM is normal. i mean im getting good gas mileage. I guess its just the honda!

now i wish i had a six speed, too bad I35s dont' come with those. They should've just given 5.5s a 5speed AT. I mean all the other VQ35s get them... grrr

May just be me, but that seems a little low for 80. Granted I don't cruise at 80, but I'm pretty sure my RPMs are higher than that. 3400 range, maybe.

Back in the day I dont think anybody cruised that fast. My girlfriends dad had a 4MT bug and he said he was always nervous to go more than 70...I think technology spoils us now.

Seriously. How does the Altima get it but not the more upscale Maxima?

2500 rpm is 72 mph in my car...according to the speedometer. According my my Garmin, I'm going almost 74.

when they were designing the 5.5 the got lazy probably and did it in a rush and forgot about upgrading the tranny lol. seriously if we had a fifth gear we'd be going 80 mph at 2200 rpm like you 6 speeders haha

Is there something wrong with my 2000, 5spd MT, just came back from texas about 1900 miles trip and I remember it was
80 MPH @ 3200 RPM

Almost 350 - 370 miles per tank.
