sts mod question..

I tried searching so forgive me if I missed anything, the sts mod Many 5th geners do, I have 2 questions for you guys who have done it.

#1. About how much of a less throw did you guys notice? in percentage. I know the $150 dollar ones reduce up to 35% throw. About how much would I be looking to receive with the sts?

#2. I'm not trying to screw this up, however in the write up by deckdout You basically mvoe the cable right or left, up or down, than drill your hole and reposition it. If some was to happen or go wrong could I simply re-attach the cable to the stock position and be fine?

Thanks in advance.

I think I recall people mentioning about a 30% reduction in throw length....but it may be less than that depending on where you drill the hole.

And yes....if something happens you can just re-attach it to the stock location.

Why don't you take some before/after measurements and do the math for everyone? Up to now, the actual percentage change is anybody's guess...

...and not entirely relevant. What you'll find with the STS mod is regret for not doing it sooner. You won't want to put it back on the original pin. It's simply that much better.

While doing this, get the ES bushings for each end of the cable. Your OEM bushings are probably cracked and sloppy by now anyway.

Good luck. Don't rush it.

I would love to take measurements but as kgalleri states it all depends on the area i drill the hole. And the reson i'm asking about the stock location is just to calm my nerves before i start drilling lol. As for now i already had regret for not doing it sooner and and eager to get it started. I'll try my best to get accurate masurements.

I don't know the percentage it decreased (really don't care) but it is quite noticeable. Just take your time drilling and threading the new hole and enjoy the results.

It's so easy (just a little time consuming), and well worth the effort. If you don't like it, you can always go back to stock then buy aftermarket.

Chances are though, you'll be plenty happy with the free STS mod. I sure am!

Do you have the ES shifter bushings yet?

not yet, but I figure if i'm going to do this mod I should wait and order some before hand.
correct? This may seem stupid but anyway to tell if they're bad?
assuming if they have cracks or something? or just look worn out?

Worn out or not, the ES bushings make a huge difference. Then add the STS mod on top of that and you'll be amazed at the change.

Just call up Cattman and get some bushings. You can do the sts mod while you wait for them to arrive.

I personally would wait and do them at the same time. Then you only have to pull out the airbox and crap once.....unless you have plenty of extra time on your hands and want to do it twice.

Good call. I have a Berk intake so that stuff was out of the way long before I did bushings/sts mod
