I have weird headlights.

Hey guys. Thats right! my headlights have a mind of their own.

heres the scenario, which im going to try to explain in a picture book kinda format so its clear.

Here it goes:

this is on auto. nothing happens. no dome lights / no headlights

this is on headlight ON position with foglight switch ON. notice how the high beam indicator is stuck on even though its not on high beam (stalk not pushed back).

this is the last picture ^ , but from the outside. as u can see the passenger side is DEAD. and drivers side only headlight is on, in low beam with no fogs. even tho fogs are on from the stalk. oh, and remember, the high beam indicator is stuck ON in the dash.

and........ this is the same situation as last pic.. just that i have lightly kicked the fog light (physically, and literally) and it is working haha.

this is headlight in ON position with the stalk pushed back to high beam

cont'd..

outside; high beams ON. passenger side still completely dead.

the DRL module is NOT the culprit, as i have already changed it, and i have plugged this one into another max and its fine.

SOOO ... conclusion: passenger side is dead. both headlight and fogs. ALTHOUGH, when i kick the passenger fog in, it flicker but doesn't turn on. AND, highbeam indicator is stuck in ON position on the dash. oh, and tail lights are perfect. both sides/brake lights/reverse/and turn signals.

Now, lets brainstorm the sh** outta this. TEAMWORK!

i had this same problem in my 4th gen, it turned out i had to replace the harness to the headlight, it had melted and would work only sometimes. the symptoms are the same as my situation, i'd say check the plug

I don't know if you've tried this, you might have already, BUTTT...here's what I would do:

(1) Check the fuses
(2) Swap the relays. IIRC, there are relays for both the left and right side
(3) Grab a voltage meter and power everything up. Check the female connection terminals for continuity or open lead. This should tell you if a wire has shorted.

BTW...288Mm?! HOLY FACK!!

hey ... from where did u replace the harness? just the part near the bulb or the entire thing. how much did it cost.

and Metal Maxima:
(1)what fuses should i check? if the headlight fuse was out.. shouldnt none of em work.
(2) already did this. same results. so its not the relay.
(3) ill try it.

and no..its 288 kms (canadian here). so its like 180 miles in ur U S of the A units.
am quite proud of how good the engine still is at its age. vq30>vq35 .. START WAR! hehe, i jokes i jokes.

yea man, already did that. u can see it in the last pic. it was like 3 bucks or something from apc. i just spliced it into the wires coming from the back. so since thats done, im guessing the fault is somewhere deeper in the wiring. i just dont know how to get to that wiring.

Yeah, I was not sure if there was a secondary one...guess not.

Well, at least you can rule one thing out.

M is the metric prefix for MEGA (1.0x10^6), ergo, 288Mm = 288,000km. You should know your metric system better than me, son.

Ok, give the tester a whirl, that should allow you to confirm a wiring issue. You SHOULD be getting voltage to the harness...

UPDATE: k so got a ticket last night for having one headlight out.

so went to the garage, and we got it working (pass. headlight that is), but its DIM. real dim. like 50% of the drivers side. fogs still not working.

theres power coming into the plug of the passenger headligtht just fine.

how we got it working is we unplugged the DRL module and plugged it back in.

good news tho, the ticket was conditional that within 48 hrs, if u fix it and show up to the reporting center, theyd cancel it. so i got that done. funny part tho; the guy didnt even come out to check if it was working now!!! hahah.

ahh well. so the situation now: drivers:good. passenger:dim. no fogs.

im thinking, its definitely something in the 3 wires that go into the drl module. they seem shady.
