Guys,
To conclude if there is indeed a speed limiter in a max, I emailed nissan NA and this is their reply.

Thank you for contacting Nissan North America, Inc. and allowing us the
opportunity to be of assistance.

Our vehicles do not have a "speed limiter," per se. What our vehicles have
is a "rev limiter" which will not allow the engine to rev over a certain
number of RPMs.

Thank you for allowing us to review this with you. If you have any questions
or comments, feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,

Jon

Do you think it is BS? personally I do not know since I only managed to go 120 mph before I feel uncomfortable cos I am having 15" wheel with my GXE

He may just be speaking of the 2002 model year.

Anyway, slightly OT, but how long did it take them to get back to you?
I emailed them a week and a half ago and still do not have a response.

Thanks.

well, I was asking them about the 2001 model. I said I am only interested in 2001 models. Well, it took them 2 weeks to respond to me.

I believe there is a speed limiter.

After racing i hit 138 mphs and my engine rpms jumped to 0 until i slowed down.

Re: Conclusion... Does Max have speed limiter
Well, I've hit the REV limiter plenty of times. But, I never hit the SPEED limiter...and I've been up to 151MPH. It takes a LONG time to get there, and then you run out of road. I wish I could just run mine totally open on an oval track and see what it really does/doesn't do and when.

My 2K1 SE Auto AE definitely has a speed limiter at 132-133 mph!

It also has a rev limiter. 6.5K rpm? Something like that.

Go to a engine shop that has a dyno and have them strap it down and do a top speed run.

i believe the models with vr rated tires option aren't speed limited ,most cars are rev limited from the factory.i can't wait for someone to find a way to remove our rev limiter my bro carrado is chipped and goes a few 100rpms past redline

Are there any chip mods for 5G Maximas? I've seen ECU chips for the BMW 3 Series that remove the limiter and let the car hit about 141MPH.

Sprint did have a limiter, he has that ghetto setup that cuts the speedo out of the loop and allows you to go faster. My car, on the other hand does not have a speed limiter. I've gotten to ~144. '95 GLE.

Interesting...then, mine must be a 99.5 Special Edition model.
Because, I have been over 133MPH several times.
With larger rims, you would be traveling even faster
than that. So...

i know mine has a speed limiter. i hit around 120-122 and it shifts into o/d gear then no matter how hard i press on the accelerator, it just coasts at the same speed until i let off. i've heard from several people that the ?automatic? gxe's have limiters due to them coming from the factory with lower rated tires. i know several se's of the same year, even tho they're manual, have hit 140+. governor's suck... but, if u must go fast, there is a tech article somewhere on removing it. have nissan explain that....

okay if its a rev limiter how come i can bounce my car off of the rev limiter in 1st 2nd 3rd but once i get into 4th it cuts out at 116-119 mph. how does the ecu know im in 4th gear? if it lets the car rev to redline in 1st-3rd why not in 4th?

auto tranny is controlled by computer.... ECU will always know what gear it is in and adjust.

Apprarently, selective GXEs and 'a few' GLEs were apprarently limited. The only way to make sure is to try it out. Deezo has a stock GXE and has no limiter, I have a GLE and have no limiter. The SE's seem not to have any limiters.
