5.5 gen grey lustre
Has anyone else with a grey lustre 5.5 gen had problems repainting their car? Body shop got the KV-3 paint and it had too much metal flake. What could be the problem? Now I'm thinking of repainting the entire car either grey lustre again or the Majestic Blue (my favorite Maxima color)
Silver and Red ftl.
Those are by far the two hardest colors to match when it comes to repainting. The guys at the my local paint shop got close, but you can still tell the red is just a shade off on my Trans Am when you open the door.
Stick with original color if at all possible. It's going to be way expensive to repaint the entire car another color and have it look good. If you go with a cheapo blowover, then it'll just plain look tacky to see a blue car with silver under the hood...
At least if you keep it silver, they won't have to repaint the engine bay, etc. And as a plus, if the silver gets chipped anywhere, you won't see the paint underneath as clearly.
That's just my feeling, though.

originally the car is grey lustre...or so we think. the hood and back bumper were repainted to get rid of chips and scratches. The body shop got the color wrong we thought. They got the color again from nissan and again doesnt match the rest of the car. they then tried color-mapping it and still no luck. KV3 is hard to match i guess. I want the car to match and they would get me a deal for repainting I will know prices on Wednesday. If I went with Majestic Blue (which is my favorite color for the 2002 max) I am aware I would need to repaint the engine bay and door jams...part of the desision will come from that.
Or just do black. It's sexy and I think the jambs and stuff would look fine against it. Especially if you're interior isn't black. IMO... Doors and hood are close while driving. Don't see the reason to get all **** haha
Majestic Blue is pretty sexy, too, though. I've long wanted a super glossy black car, but every time I see MB, I get all soft for it and seriously think about it instead lol. Especially if I see one towards dark. It really stand out to me.

Try matching pearl white....
Once the car gets older, the paint fades a bit, which makes it very hard to match. The only way to have it match perfectly is to have the entire car repainted
I would definitely re-paint it grey lustre..I would HATE to have a car with different colored door jams...I even clean my door jams every time I wash my car. lol

stick to the original color. Please. Once you sell your car a lot of potential buyers will walk away once they find out the whole car was painted a different color. I know I would...I would run. My 02.
^^+1
same color, gotta love that grey lustre man "stick" with it if you're repainting it.
Like everyone has said its tough to match paint etc etc and then when you go to sell it with a different color its not beneficial. If you re paint it lustre it'll be hard to see the mess up if any since its a darker color...idk...keep it the same.

What happened is that that same paint code KV3 has different shade variations depending on where the car was built.Theres a very sparkly alternate and a regular metallic one.The bodyshop has different color chips on the same color code to check against the car for best color match.Whatever was painted was probably shot using the first "standard" formula.

Squirrel82--I spoke with the body shop today, I guess there are 3 variants of KV3. he bought all 3 variations in addition to having it color-mapped. None completely matched the car. I have seen the 3 variations and they don't completely match. I like the sparkly one actually so I might paint the car with the sparkly KV3. I was thinking of the Majestic Blue but from the responces I got I'm not so sure anymore even tho it is my favorite color for the car.

Yea sometimes what we have just doesnt match the car.Could be sun fade, previous repair,or just a variation that wasnt formulated. What I do is pick the closest one and blend it into the old color. If the color is that far off or its a panel that wouldnt be worth blending, like a bumper into the 1/4s,tinting will take care of it most of the time.Paint companies seldom make perfect exact matches though.Blending is key.

But to answer your question I would never consider changing the car from its original color as one has pointed out trying to resell the car after you have done that will be next to impossible, even trading it in a dealer will give you next to nothhing because you have changed the original paint, stay with the Grey Luster
