stuck in Reverse

I have had a couple of issues with the manual trans. Twice now it has poped out of reverse and now this morning it actually got stuck in reverse - out in the street - after hitting on the stick for a couple of times it finally came out. I have an 01 SE - called dealership today because I needed to make an appointment for my first oil change.

Why is it that the service people think that you are a moron? I was explaining the problem to him - and made sure to tell him that i have been driving stick for the last 10 years. Asked me if I was sure it was in reverse - because new cars can be tricky??

Also - when I explained to him that the car got stuck in reverse this morning - he asked me if when I parked it last if I left it in reverse. Told him no - always put it in first gear. Asked me if I was sure??? Of course I am sure - it is a habit.

I wasnt aware that I had to take a pop quiz on how to drive stick when I brought issues up.

Sorry that this is so long - had to get it off my chest

Interesting. My 00 max is having its transmission rebuilt as I write this because it pops out of fourth gear. It took a long time to convince the dealer this phenomenon actually happens. A mechanic finally drove it home one night and experienced the problem. Apparently this is a very rare issue, because I haven't heard of anyone else with the same problem.

Sounds like something needs to be adjusted... That or a rebuild? I had this problem on my last car, however I never got it fixed. Sorry, I know that doesn't help Your car should still be under the 3/36 warranty for transmission, so take it in.

i remember reading in a Super Street once that it may be a bent shift fork(?) caused by an object, ie. a hand, resting on the shifter, and over time it bends the fork, which causes the shifter to pop out of gear. im probably totally wrong, and ill go find the article when i go home.
