Not really you could put all the money into a built auto tranny for much less than the swap. Theres a reason why the fastest maxima is auto.

Either way, Jime is using stock autos... His most recent one lasted 2.5 years of drag racing. His car is also very light which takes a lot of stress off of the drive train, though.
And yes, autos are better for drag racing, but that's not always the purpose of a car. Most people enjoy driving a manual car more on the street, and it's certainly the way to go for autocrossing.
Also, afaik, people have still blown built autos. The most reliable transmission option for us right now for very high power applications is probably a 6 speed with the par gear upgrades.

I'm sure there's plenty of situations where someone changes their mind, and has already invested enough effort into the vehicle that they'd rather swap than sell it and buy another.
Oh boy, you again. If you pay someone to do the work, it would be very expensive, but piecing it together yourself with used parts and doing the work yourself, then selling off what you replaced really isn't that bad. Due to buying used parts, the price could vary hugely, but I bet people have done the full swap for well under 1,000 dollars.
You do realize a level 10 built auto transmission is in the 3,000+ dollar range, right? And that is with core exchange! Add in another 300-500 for a torque converter, and you're really spending some money. WTF are you smoking?

And sure you can buy all used parts but between the time it will take to get all parts you might as well forget it. Its taken some people on here almost a year to get all their parts. At the end of the day your speaking extremely hypothetically, on average it will cost a lot of money, you cant really argue that point.Where the hell did I say a level 10 tranny build? Hahaha put more words in my mouth. You go get your manual swap on a stock car and on that same car stock I'll put the same amount in and **** on you in a drag with auto tranny work. And dont say oh blah blah I'll buy used parts so it wont cost me much blal blah, I could do the same as well. Seriously wtf are you smoking?! I'd love some of it.
And about Jim...okay your point? Its still the fastest car and its auto.
And AGAIN way to take **** out of context. The guy I responded to was talking about forced induction. He tried to say 5 speeds would be better, implying you would go faster with fi and 5 speeds. Thus I countered with the fact that an auto tranny is better for fi. And you yourself just said autos are better for drag racing! SMH

Get off my *** I dont know what your problem is with me but you just made yourself look like a clown trying to "attack" what I said. Everyone knows what I said was right and I backed it up. Go ***** at someone else I'm tired of your stupid posts directed at me.

Yeah because the average person can pull off the swap

Instead of arguing with a brick wall like I did in the last post, I'll just leave you to it. At least in this case you aren't overtly wrong, just exaggerating and obviously still angry.
I covered that in my post. If you're having someone do it, yes very expensive. Piece it together over time and do it yourself, and it's not. It's as simple as that. Hopefully some of the swap guys will chime in and give us an impression of what it actually took for them to do it.

I'm the one exaggerating? "If you're having someone do it, yes very expensive." Thats what I've been saying so how am I exaggerating if you agree?
The auto to manual conversion in a 2k should be the same as a 4th gen... I was going to do one before my ex totalled my 2k... I believe the trans are the same, only thing different that I can remember off top is the ECU and axles... shouldn't be too difficult... hotshot there is multiple reasons someone with an auto wants to convert to a manual... multiple
My point is a 5 spd holds up better then an auto in FI conditions I said nothing about being faster. I went from a 2000 non lsd to a 01 VLSD cause I decided not to go FI but still wanted a LSD cause its better for me in the snow. As we speak my car is again at the shop for tranny work which sounds like a oil pump in the front leaking. Of coarse when I went to a VLSD tranny I happen to buy one that needed a rebuild so it ended being more then a 5 spd swap with the rebuild and the stage II VB and new raxles.

The point of "over time" is that it can take time to find everything needed for a swap. There are quite a few parts that go into it, and you are going to spend a fortune if you just go to a dealer and buy new parts, therefore finding things used takes time and costs less.

sell your auto max and get a 5spd or 6spd max.. is not worth going through all the trouble, I was thinking about doing this swap myself and I visit around 16 junkyards in philly and south jersey and didn't even find the pedals LOL... and if you plan to get the parts from nissan your looking to spend around 3k in parts... good luck buddy
I spent under $300 for my 5 speed swap on my i30. I will never go back to auto.
For all you 5th gen guys trying to save money on the swap, 4th gen stuff works fine. Even down to the axles.
And always get hyrdrolic components from nissan (master and slave cylinder). It will make things 10000x more simple. lol

How does it hold up better? You'll spin every gear, all I'm sayin. Auto will let you put all that power to the ground easier because of longer gear ratios. I have nothing against manuals I just think as of now for a high performance Maxima auto seems to be the better choice.
