Please Help, Problems and P0113 codes...

Ok, so i have a 2002 SE with the 6spd. A while back the car decided to break down on me. It would start then just die. After a while of my mechanic doing parts swapping and coming up with no real answer i have now picked it up from him. It has a brand new MAF, New plugs and some cat work. After replacing the MAF the car would start, idle, but would not rev up and then the cat started to glow red after a few minutes of running. The cat is now gutted and that did not fix the problem of letting the car rev. So then we moved onto the plugs. That didnt help. But now the car starts, it idles fine, but as soon as you give it gas it gets to about 1.5-2 rpms and starts to bog and almost wants to die. So the SES light was on and i limped it down to my local autozone and i got the 2 P0113 codes. That is saying that it is the IAT. what exactly is that and how do i replace it? and cost?

thank you in advance

Intake air temp sensor. Located right after the filter box. AKA, your MAF. That mechanic was taking you to the bank too.

Well, if you have a multimeter, you can do some tests to verify:

Unplug MAF sensor connector

Test for approx. 5v at terminal 1 and a ground with the ignition to 'ON'

If no voltage, you got a wire harness problem.

If you have approx 5v, continue below:

1. Turn ignition switch “OFF”.
2. Check harness continuity between sensor terminal 3 and engine ground.
Continuity should exist.
3. Also check harness for short to power.

If ok:

You need to test resistance of the MAF sensor itself, you do this by checking resistance (ohms) between terminals 3 & 5 of the sensor. You should have approx 2 ohms.

If you aren't getting about 2 ohms, then your MAF is screwed.

Can you tell us the part # of the MAF they put in?

These procedures are on page EC-203 of the service manual. If you don't have a service manual, download one from the link in my Sig.
