Gear whine?

Hi,
Looking for some input. 02 6 Speed...
Has an odd gear whine, almost a whirling sound.
Audible when in gear 1-4 (probably 5th and 6th too), with or without clutch engagement.
Gets "whinier" as rpm increases, but seems to be related to wheel speed.

No marbles in a can sound, had the throw out bearing tsb taken care of a few years back.
No real issues with shifting or drive-ability, just annoying.

I had the fluid changed about 2 months ago, but the sound has been there for a while.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Are you sure it's related to the gears? Could be a wheel bearing or axle carrier bearing. Mine had quite a wheel wine and both of those parts were bad. Replaced and no more whine! Just my .02.

It does not occur in neutral...it changes with rpms, but only when in gear

unless your tranny has lost almost all of it's fluid somehow, it sounds like time for a rebuild

i had a similar sound on my '92 and it didn't go away till i got the tranny rebuilt. i wouldn't do it until it becomes more of a problem but that's just me.

I have a whine as well, new tranny getting installed in a few weeks.

I'd consider getting it fixed sooner than later, unless you want to swap it for a used one or new one. Reason is, if it is a bearing whine, once that bearing goes completely, others will follow and then it will be too late
