So my car stalled at the drive thru today

put the tranny in neutral cuz i was waiting like forever for my stupid egg mcmuffin. a few seconds later, putter, stall. First time its ever happened. no SES light.

Maybe its time i replace the spark plugs. Or is there another problem? Dont tell me MAF i dont have $400 to dish out for that.

I had this problem once. Turned out the battery cable didn't have a good connection to the battery post. I had to really crankdown on the cable clamp. It was weird because it was stall like that, but I usually could always start it right back up again.

I have ran into 2 types of stalling problems...wait 3 .

1. Idle air control Valve
2.MAF
3.Ignition Coils

Unfortunately None of them will cost you less than 300

The MAF can be had for a lot less than $400. You can buy the MAF for 00-01 and put the sensor in your tube. $80-90 from DaveB

I would say reset the ECU, do all the relearns and hope it never happens again. From what you described theres really not much to diagnose, so unless it gets worse then theres not much help to be offered...unless someone has experienced your EXACT problem

In addition to what everyone here is saying..it could be your fuel pump, fuel filter, or injectors. I'd have to rule out the MAF because I've never seen a faulty one stalling out someones car.

I doubt its the fuel filter your not supposed to have to change them... as for the injectors its possible...

to the op- did you have any sputtering or loss of power prior to this?

It sputtered and then stalled, only when i put the tranny in neutral. This has never happened ever, and i've been in one hour traffic jams... Oh well, i doubt its my injector. THe guy who owned the car before me did an injector and decarb at like 70k miles and i've been using shell premium since.

If it happens again, then i'll think something of it. Otherwise for now, i'm just going to call it a fluke.

yes, but what AEMAX said still stands. you just have to transfer the temp sensor off the 5.5 MAF onto your new MAF and then its the same as a 5.5 MAF
