Removing offset from rims..

Can I take the rims to a machine shop and have them grind away the offset?

This is my simple math..

25 offset (milles) - 40 offset (the mm that Iv seen other milles at) = -15mm, the difference that the shop would have to grind away. correct?

What are you trying to achieve here?

Are you trying to move the wheels out near the fender lip, or in away from the fender?

And BTW, forget about "grinding" anything to change the wheel location. Bad idea.

A plus offset sticks out like a *****. I don't want it to stick out that much.

Unless the wheel is 10" wide or something, I dont see how it will stick out a lot. I have 9J +25 and they fit just fine. I would actually get lower offset too if I could (for the back at least).
Nonetheless, I wouldn't mill the offset because some wheels are specifically design for the offset, so if you mess with it, there will be a high chance of wheel failure.

You would have to machine that material out of there, and it looks like you want to machine 15 MM from the inside face of the rim. This would make the rim very thin there and possibly destroy the structural integrity of the wheel. Your studs would probably be too long, and you might even break through to the conterbore for the lugs, which would mean there would be nothing for the lugs to seat on when you torque them down.

the most a knowledagle machine shop should remove is 5mm. 15mm is WAY too much, you need to find different wheels.

i wouldn't mess with it, you are going to change the structural design of the rim which could result in any number of issues. If you dont like how far you they stick out it looks like it's time to buy some new rims with the correct offset

Have you tried putting a rim up on the car to see how it looks? I don't see why would want to tuck the wheels in unless they stick way out.

that will give you a concrete answer...don't machine your wheels, you are asking for trouble

If you remove that material you remove the surface that the wheel lug uses to holds the wheel again the hub. You cant modify wheels.

Don't do it. Just sell those and get another set of rims in the offsets you like better. Those look like MM Evo5's?

Put them on the car and post a pic. I think we all wanna see how far they stick out from the fender for you to want to grind it down.

with this said...

I am currently running 19x8.5 +25 Evo5's all around on my 5.5 lowered on Progress. If you are trying to get to 40mm...that is WAY too much.

Since you are so dead set on milling your wheels...i'd mill the front 2 wheels down to +30 (-5mm from what they are now). I have rolled my pass. side fender and still rub with 3 people in the car. If you dont wanna risk rubbing, might as well mill the rears down 5mm as well. This will make all 4 wheels/tires sit as flush as possible to the fenders without rubbing. Also, i'm running 245/35r19's.

As I said before , do NOT go more than 5mm.
