Need some help folks...

01 GLE Auto... 180K miles...

No issues with the car.. but since she had a birthday I thought I'd do a good checkup and see if something needs to be replaced.

I have read on here that if you see the engine go back and forth when shifting from say P->R->D with the brake on... its generally the front and back motor mounts.

My questions about this:
1. I know I have the electronic mounts, but if I simply buy the MT mounts will they fit on the cross beam? or do I need to buy a new one? I dont want ES since I like the comfort aspect of the car over sport.. my BMW covers that aspect!
2. What about the left and right mounts? At the mileage 180K... how does one check those?
3. While checking the mounts during those gear shifts.. how much front back movement is OK? i.e. should there be "any" play or none. The motor currently rocks about 1.5" or maybe 2" when doing this and the car has some vibration in the steering wheel when in reverse which goes away as you let go the brake.

I can post a video of the engine rocking back and forth if that would help.

Its not bothering me much yet, which means its not urgent. Just want to make sure what I can spend some $$$ on!

1. Yes, manual mounts will fit.
2. Don't know if you can actually check them through a test unless it's a visual inspection.
3. 1-2" sounds within spec.

 

I have changed my elec. mounts to maul. mounts, Its cheaper and you wont feel a difference. They fit right in. I have posted this also
