Wondering if I should sell before 2010

As most of you Know I have a

2003 Nissan Maxima se Titanium Edition
it has 89xxx miles

The good:
Nex suspension
Jim wolf Intake
Hks Exhaust (non resonated)
20" staggered wheels
17 deg timing
Custom Nav in Ashtray
10 inch kicker in trunk.
Blacked out lights
5% tint

The Bad:
one fog light is cracked
Bose loves to cut out when in cd mode
Small door ding fro some azz in parking lot
and a small dent in the rear near bumper
Small wear on steering wheel

It is a great Car and Drives perfect, Im just scared that the cars value will diminish by a large amount in 2010

I have been looking at fox bodies for daily drivers and they seem to be going for around 6-7 for the condition I want. Don't get me wrong but I just want a little change.

I am wondering what you think my car is worth, not the KBB but what an individual like yourself would pay.

Here are some pics, that im sure you all have seen

Please give me your honest opinion.
As to what I can get for her.

I am not selling it unless It reaches my expectations.

Thanks

You think someone is going to pay over book value for that thing? I would loose the 20" wheels for starters and sell them separately and put OEM back on.

I would love to put the stock wheels on but I have sold them.

Also I am looking for around 8500 nothing overly serious.

thanks

You aren't going to recover much money with your mods. Best is to sell them seperate, ie the wheels. You can check craigslist for wheels, etc. I picked up a set of 04SL wheels w/tires for $250, so anything is possible. I would also lose the tint on the rear tail lights, you may be putting off any potential buyers with that if you decide to sell.

Used car market has been very bad. You would be lucky to get close to book value for your car. I thought about selling my car about 6 months back since I have a 2nd car which is a 2 seater convertible. Since my maxima has already depreciated and insurance is cheap ($300 a year for me since it is a 2nd car), I'm not losing much money moving forward so I just kept it.

i would keep it.. and if you were selling it at this moment and were local, i would be highly interested

but like others said, turning it into stock would be a better choice, plus you'll make more money selling the aftermarket parts off of it

Yea I always did regret going from the 00 5spd to a 03 4at ( and not the 6spd). Its a good car I just go on Ebay too much and look at 5.0's

Great car, drives perfect...and you want to sell?

How much do you think it will "plummet" in value next year?

Seven years ago, this was a $30K car. It's now a ~$8-9K car. $21,000 gone is 7 years. 3K a year, average.

Will it be a 5-6K car next year? NOPE.

The big devaluation has been done. Cars are NOT an investment, they are a depreciating asset.
Now is the time to drive it and enjoy it, not sell it after it's big drop in value.

AGREED!

Perkman, Id say keep it. I tried selling my car, I tried my best, but I got no realistic offers. I figure I may as well keep it now b/c in 2-3 years I'll get peanuts for it. So Its probably staying with me for good. Its a geat car though

For some reason, I think your car looks great, even with the big rims. I wouldnt change a thing on it...at all. It looks mint too. Keep it imo

You'd have to sell it to someone in the know... but wait, that's you!

The tint, tails and side-markers scream "rice" to anyone who isn't familiar with (or appreciating of) some of the typical visual mods on the 5th gen. The wheels do, too, however in your case they're very tasteful. I like 'em.

It's a clean, well-maintained ride, and you're currently experiencing the best value you ever will have out of it. I say enjoy it for a few more years, and save your money.

On a side note, your priorities are kind of off, IMO. You listed a cracked fog light as a "problem", and a navigation system in the ashtray as a "mod". Kind of makes me scratch my head with a WTF look on my face.

I would keep it. I tried selling my maxima and some moron offered me $1000... That doesnt really matter in your situation but I thought Id throw that in there.

I would keep that car. You have a Maxima in very good condition and it will last you a long time. I know how you feel about wanting a change. Im 18 and have changed cars 4 times. I only regret not keeping one of them. Now with my plans on this max.. Im going to drive it until it blows the **** up then swap it, and drive it until it blows the **** up. If your looking for a change... Change the way it looks. Good thing about maximas is you can make them leave black marks up the road and watch smoke roll from the front wheels.. or you can sit it on chrome 24's and sit in the back seat with one hand on the wheel (I would never do that btw).

thanks for your opinion, the fog was cracked this past weekend, I already ordered a new one, so i do believe my priorities are in line. the nav mod in the ashtray is actually hardwired with the sound coming from the sun roof control area. it looks way better than those old blackberry pics. anything not stock is a mod mang. but to each their own.

Thanks for your comment, I dunno about the 24s tho lol. but yes you are correct you can mod a car any way you want.

I would keep it. Mileage isn't too high and you probably won't be too happy with the amount you would realistically get. It looks good, enjoy the mods you have.

I'd pay 65-7 tops. Dealers are letting the 6mt version of these cars go for 7.... With less or equal miles...

just my opinion.

John, I would say keep it. But if you have to, your best best is to put back as many stock parts as you can. My car barely has 63,000 miles and I bet I couldn't even get 7k right now...... Good luck with whatever you decide...

I won't say if you should sell or keep it but if you're planning on selling it soon anyway now is the time. It's right at the year and mileage where a lot of banks will not finance it to most people. In another year it will become a "cash car" which means it won't qualify for any traditional auto financing. That will seriously limit your customer base or the trade in value at a dealer.

That being said, the value drop doesn't matter till you sell it. If you were to buy a new car now you'd loose a lot more value in it than you will in your Max.

The only way I'd sell it now is if you were absolutely planning to get rid of it in the next year any way.

Very True on the financing part of the whole deal.

I think I am going to listen to the masses and keep it for a while longer.

thanks for the response very helpful

As most people said, I agree that you should keep it at this point. However, you can still shop it around it. You may get and offer close to what you want, and if you don't it's not like you are stuck w/ a hooptie...

Plus, everybody is trying to get rid of their car notes, unless they desperately need a new car. There is NOTHING wrong w/ yours...

Your car has very low miles...

I have a 02 with 152,000 and I bought it for 6k and I have 4k left I owe on it, I'm pretty broke so I had to get a loan.

I only pay 180 a month but my insurance is 120 a month.

Seeing your car makes me realize how bad I got ripped...

Keep your max if it's paid off bro, that's my advice to you.

Its a good car, but you want to sell it and get somethig with questionable reliability that gets bad gas milage and is slower? Doesnt make sense to me. I have had 5.0's and raced them, your car will run circles around a fox body. Keep it.

good choice to keep it. Who really wants car payments if you don't have to? If you were to sell, I would image you'd get "private party" value. w/ or w/o mods.

Mods are better sold separately... unless you have them as a come-on for potential buyers.

I think that was a good choice. And you're going to love the added power with those spacers.

Still not digging the tails and low-rider look, but your car is freakishly clean and nicely modded. Keep doing something new with it every few months, and the years will slip on by with a smile on your face.

It's in great shape. Drive it until it drops. Spending a few bucks on occasional repairs is a lot better than regular loan payments.
