Sunroof Control Module in 2K
I know... you all are asking, why is there another post about the sunroof reset. Well, this one is different. Through all my searches, I found no mention about testing the sunroof module or where it is located.
My issue is the express open and tilt buttons in my wife's 2K Max only allow the roof to open 3" at a time. What I've done so far:
- Disconnect the battery for an hour and reconnect... not fixed
- Remove the relay under the dash for an hour, reconnected... same result
- Open and close the sunroof 3" at a time and held the tilt once closed for 15 seconds... same result
- Did the same procedure with the express open/close switch... same result
I know the last two are the procedures for 2002-2003, but a year ago when I disconnected the battery to install an amp, oddly it reset it then. I held the button about 10 seconds and it clicked and worked great until we had a bed cell in the battery, which cause a weak engine start and the roof to start screwing up. I replaced it and expected that leaving it disconnected for an hour would have helped.
Is there a way to test the sunroof module to determine if weak power caused the issue? Where is it located? Is it possible to update it with the 2002-2003 unit? Any other options?
The new module runs $400 and although my wife loves the car, this is making her hate it. The Nissan mechanic said he's not 100% sure it will fix it long term and said it's a rare problem. They usually work or don't work, no in between.
help?

And I have an even different problem with my roof. It seems to get confused every once in a while. It will get stuck in whatever position it is in, and it takes 5 minutes off screwing with the controls to make it work again.
I guess our generation's sunroof just has a lot of issues.

EDIT: you might also have to attempt to operate the sunroof with the relay out of the car...can't remember as it's been a while since I've had to reset mine

Im in for a solution as well I have an 02 sometimes mine works sometimes it doesnt and sometimes I can only open it by pushing the tilt button a inch at a time and the sunroof open button doesnt do anything.

The 5.5 Gen has a reset feature built into the system. Check your manual.

When you disconnected the relay, did you turn the key to the "ON" position, and then turn the car off before reconnecting the relay? If you simply disconnect the relay, and then plug it back in before the computer knows anything is different, I don't think it will reset.

I did try it just as you say. Pulled the relay, tried it by turning on the key to drain any capacitor charges, turned the key off, reconnected the relay and re-tried.
I'm going to go through all the steps again this weekend in a last ditch effort. It really should be resetting.

Ok, tried again to reset my sunroof. Pulled the relay, disconnected the battery, reconnected battery, turned key on, tried roof, turned key off, connected relay, turned key on again, tried it. same result, 2-3" at a time. Tried the 2002/3 reset procedure of holding the tilt close button for 15 seconds, nothing.
I'm frustrated with it . Is the control module built into the motor assembly or is it under the dash somewhere?
