Would you put THIS on your 5th gen?

I'm just about to pull a new-to-me 5th gen in my garage and I'm going to want to slap a CAI on it. In surfing eBay I came across this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissa...Q5fAccessories

Being a firm believer in the "if it sounds too good to be true...." mantra, & considering the Injens come in at about $300+, I'm highly skeptical. Anyone know WTH is the deal with these "Blinglights" products? Ok? Avoid at all costs? Run and hide? Poke your own eyes out before putting one of these things on your car? ...what?....

I personally would not put that in my car. I just don't like the flex section type hoses.

Flex tubing? Ew-w.

Contact Brian Catts at Cattman and see what he has today. Don't go by what's on his website; call him on the phone.

I have no idea what the item is, since eBay is blocked at work, but I looked up "Blinglights" and found this: http://www.blinglights.com/about.asp

If you click on the "message boards" link, you get: http://www.blinglights.net/ <--WTF?

The comments in here are pretty telling: http://www.scionlife.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139244

this guy is nothing but problems
he has fog light that he claimed to fit oem when i got them i was so mad he sent me walmart \pilot fog lights
I've seen that before. A member in the XB2 forum had purchased it & we quickly told him he got ripped. Luckily he got his money back. What a POS, someone should email the seller and tell him to stop trying to sell that junk.
yeah my friend just ordered an intake from him for his 2000 maxima that didnt come close to fitting so he sent it back, horrible seller too he never responded to messages or emails or anything so i had to go through ebay

Good call. I owned a 4th gen & am actually a former regular on maxima.org from waaaaaaay back in the day. I bought the wheels that were on my 4th gen from Brian (Cattman), along with a few other things. Good guy & a real straight shooter. I can remember when he had his track-Max rear-ended while sitting on its trailer, behind his truck at a red light. I'll check w/him and keep an eye on the classifieds thread.

Curious - what's typical 1/4 mile time for a stock 03 6-speed vs. expected 1/4 time for intake & exhaust modded car?

If you want a ram air intake then I have a cheap solution for you. go to O'reily or your local auto shop. get the plate that connects to your MAF and has a round mount for a open in take filter. then find the size filter that fits this piece and go home and take 5min to install it. it will prob cost you $25 for the all the cheap stuff. and thats what I have used on my past two Max's after 50k miles under use with these it works fine.

  • "washable filter"
  • "5-10HP!"
  • Company Name: "N-Take"
  • "Polished piping for better direct airflow into the throttle body"

This = avoid. Especially for $18.00...

Sounds like you got your head on straight, and were momentarily distracted by a low price, carbon fiber, and a slick graphic with girls in leather.

Not that there's anything wrong with girls in leather... Lord, no! It just muddies up the decision making process is all.

Welcome back to the org, old timer.

There isn't $244 worth of gain with any intake on our cars. The factory design really isn't that restrictive.

What doesn't add up for you may be an entirely acceptable cost/benefit to other people. Everyone has their own scale. People spend more than that on a UDP.

To put it another way, there isn't $244 worth of gain with any Stillen lip on our cars.

A stillen lip is a totally diff world when you want to keep your car lookin stock. plus when you can get intake set up from the piping at the local shop for 30 bucks why waist your time and money buying that crap with flex piping?

Probably true enough - but that wonderful growl at WOT that comes on around 3,000 rpm is worth half that much all by itself. (At least the way it made my former 4th gen sound)

Yeah that Growl at WOT sounds pretty great with a 3.0 but you should never have to pay 100+ even to get it. a metal tube is a metal tube, a rubber connector to connect the tubes are cheap if they break. WHY THE CRAP would some one waist $200 on and intake Hell why waist $100? you can get a good set up from your local auto store for $30 then get a $50 K&N filter and bang you have a $80 Intake. done

I have used the crappy $20 filter from O'reily for the past 3 years and had no problems at all the car runs great. Do your self a favor and Save money but still get the great sound. Be smart about this stuff man there are alot of ways to spend very little money for relatively same gains if not the same.

You can go short ram since your location is cool. For hot areas, I would never use a short ram or warm air. The power loss is staggering on hot summer days. It's bad enough with my CAI that goes into the fender.

There's gotta be a couple people on here with a short ram or at least the pipe laying around. Knowing the results of an intake (now), I wouldn't spend more than 30 bucks haha.

best intake setup you will ever have...

-Ported Throttle body 70mm (5th gens only, 5.5gens can use a mustang TB) -$190
-3" Inner diameter tube for breather - $20 (online metals)
-Land Rover Big Bore Maf -$75
-bpi velocity Stack $30
-R2c Filter -$70

Like I said...custom made>*

Before I get PMs:
No you can not run this without tuning
Yes, I have pics, they are around here on the forum

tune in next week when I reveal how to max out your header setup...
