3.5 Sterling Silver Window Tinting?

How is everyone? I currently have an 02 Sterling Silver SE. I wanna have my windows tinted but not sure about the %. I live in NY and didn't want to go too dark. I was thinking somewhere between 35%-50%. If anyone who has a Sterling Silver Max could post some pics of their tints that would be great. Thanks a lot.

Yea I am trying to make up my mind on the same issue as well. I feel like if I go with 35% I'll always wish I went darker, but then again, with anything under that I might get tickets. I live on LI too HotShotVQ35. I would think it would be alot worse in the city, than on the island, but your making me think twice about going with 20%

For what it's worth, I'm thinking as long as your backseat windows are tinted darker than your frontseat windows, you won't get targeted as easily by an over-zealous cop.

Personally, I went so far as to get quotes and discuss the tinting process with a few local shops. In the end, I decided to pass. Partly because I live in NY, and I don't want to get hassled. But also, there was this nagging sense in the back of my head that window tint was too ricey up here in the Northeast. (Don't hate on me, guys! It's just an opinion.)

I have 35% in NY without any issues. I wouldn't go as far as being ricey. I dont like to dark of a tint but I need something to protect my eyes from idiots with aftermarket HID kits all over the road in NY without an attempt to aim them. I actually hurts with those huge SUV's with their 10k HID's in your mirrors and especialy when facing you in oncoming traffic.

I live in NY and have 35% in the front and 25% in the back on my 5.5. Whenever I see a cop, I just roll down my windows and open the sunroof to let in some light. I've never had an issue.

I live in Philly but there may be a good chance of me moving to Manhattan. I too want to get my Max tinted and keep thinking about the percentages: 30% or 20%. I could get 20% and drive around Philly with minimal to no hassle but would probably be caught if I registered in NY.

I do have a Camaro with limo tint for 11 years and never got a ticket.

Did you guys tint your moonroof? I thought about putting 20% on the inside if I do decide to get the tint done. Not having any tint on it just sucks.

I have 20% all around, I always leave my sunroof shade open so it looks little bit brighter during day time. I wouldn't tint the sunroof though, thats what the shade is for.

Silver Mist right? I had mine done 6 months ago, 35% on the door windows and something like 26% on the rear window and I am very pleased with how it looks. I'll see if I can snap a picture for you.

I also live on Long Island and I decided to go for the 20% all around. I like the way it looks. If a cop's gonna harass me over tinted windows anyway, might as well be worth it. Actually I got pulled over once, and the only mention he said about the windows was "Kind of dark, don't you think?". Go figure, I guess it depends on their day. My car is sterling mist, by the way, if that matters at all for discussion. Also, I decided to tint the sunroof as well (20%) only for the simple fact that I don't always want the sun beating down on me, but I'd like to have some light. Or it can be opened, or closed with the shade. It's all preference though. Where in NY are you jl7288?

I have sterling mist with 5% on rear and the sunroof, 30% in the front. So far cops havent said anything about it the couple times I was pulled over. Check my gallery in my profile for some pics. There are all night time so its hard to see how dark the tint is. I will get up some daytime pics so you can see that this weekend.

Rochester.... tint is ricey? wow thats crazy man. You wouldnt like to live in calgary, this place is rice city. My car with limo tint and led sidemarkers oozes class compared to the ricemobiles around here... every civic has altezzas and even dodge neons with unpainted body kits etc... its bad

I said it was a nagging opinion, and I said, "up here in the Northeast", and I'm probably not as young as the majority here, and... and I should have known better to say that when I did.

Ug. Fine. Tinted windows. Free the Whales.

hey Im just hasslin ya buddy! But serious. I have some pics from my cell phone of cars around here and you would laugh your *** off. I've seen sunfires with $1000+ in body work and paint/ huge spoiler and guess what... stock engine and exhaust, or maybe just an exhaust tip for that fartcan sound effect... If carried a camera on a daily basis I could compile one of those youtube ricer videos within a week I bet.

And yes, I am probably younger than most on here so my opinion of rice is probably slanted compared to the rest. tint ftw IMO

Have you considered silver reflective tint? In the next month or so Im having my windows professionally done with 35% silver all the way around. The only problem is that our OEM windows come with a 4-7% light green tint which is magnified with the reflective tint. Ill post some pictures if i get it done sooner than later. The guy at the tint shop says that the reflective nature of the tint doesnt effect the light meter that some stateys use to check tint legality. Personally I believe him, I did some testing with samples he gave me using one of those meters my cop buddy has.

I know. I'm having fun, too.

I actually like the look of tint on dark cars, and on white cars, interestingly enough. I think a white 5.5 with dark tint is drool-worthy. It's the light-colored paints (like my sheer silver) that gives me pause.

Obviously there are lots of combos of the three variables (opacity, shade and car color.) Some combo's work better than others.

Legally? Not everywhere. States have different laws regarding allowable window tinting. In Florida, for example, the tint must allow more than 28% light in for the front side windows and more than 15% for the rear side and rear windows. Going with less than is at your own risk. Fortunately most cops down here are pretty forgiving, to certain extent, due to the nature of the climate all year around.
Check your state law here:

35% on the front driver & passenger is the norm, as the police require to be able to see the passenger when looking through the driver side window, and most of the guys go with 20% on all the rear windows. I have not had any issues here in Ontario and I am running with 20% all the way around

Anything lighter than 5% and you might as well not have any tint at all. Cops around here don't waste their time ticketing people for tint....

Its not super dark, but the metallic makes it harder to see inside. it also meters @ 17% even though is 35% tint.

If you have light interior do 35% on sides, and 20% rear window.

If you have black interior do 35% all the way around.

Keep it subtle.

NY sucks if you have a modded car. I used to have 35% on my front windows and got a summons for it. I got pulled over a lot for them and then got tired of it so just took it off. I have 20% on my rear windows and rear windshield and never had a problem with them. Honestly people are going to say different things about what % tints are good....To read more just go on nycmaximas.org..People have a window tint rant frenzy there. It may or may not help you to decide lol.
