Crankshaft Position Sensor (p1336) - Car driving rough...?

This car craves attention... I don't think I have gone 6 months without that familiar Check Engine glaring in my face...... Regardless...

History...

2000 SE automatic

Full exhaust replacement
02 sensor replaced (bank 1 sensor 2)

Problem...

A day later when we cleared the check engine light, it popped back on. I was really busy and didn't get around to checking the code until today (few weeks). For the past few days my car has been pretty rough on the highway. If I accelerate too fast my car physically struggles to go past 60... I can see the tach revving away, but the car is just not responding right... it almost feels like it can't shift into the next gear. I also think I heard some clinking/grinding while I was climbing the hill to my house (driving at about 25 mph)... not sure if that is related or if I was just hearing things.

Autozone gave me the p1336 code which is for the Crankshaft Position Sensor. On their little slip of paper it says it could be a open/short circuit, flywheel teeth broke/missing, or failed CKPS.

Thoughts??

I searched the problem and found some info for the 4th gen car but I don't know if the way my car is driving means it's just as simple as the sensor... or if I have bigger problems. How should I diagnose this more?

Thanks for any info you can provide !

if the CEL says its the crankshaft sensor then replace it. The sensors are easily loacated. One is near the oil filter and the other is located near the interface of the tranny and engine. Problem is that u will prolly need to raise the vehicle to change. But they only like 100 bucks from AZ
