Warpspeed test pipe in an otherwise stock exhaust-sound clip
After replacing my deteriorating precats with a low mileage used pair, I decided to also replace the original main catalytic converter. With 164,000 miles on it, I figured there has to be at least some restriction in it by now-and based on the amount of light that I was able to pass through it using a pretty powerful LED light, there was definitely some internal clogging.
The consensus on the board seems to be the Warpspeed test pipe is the one to get. My only reservation was that some people have complained of increased "rasp" with test pipes but it seemed most had either headers, aftermarket y-pipes or cat back exhausts. Wasn't sure what changes I'd hear with an otherwise stock exhaust.
At idle, my car is still very quiet, maybe a touch more sound. Zero rasp, no drone, really very little change from stock. If you have a stock exhaust and want to keep it quiet, the Warpspeed test pipe is probably going to make you happy with the lack of increased noise. In addition, in higher mileage cars, you are probably going to see a small performance gain as well, due to the mileage on the original catalytic converter. Best of all, since only the precats are monitored, no SES light either. Apparently, both Nissan and the EPA agree that the precats effectively scrub enough pollution from the exhaust that the main cat doesn't need to be monitored for performance.
Yes, my car is running when the video starts, that's how quiet it still is!

I didn't hear anything unpleasant, so... success!
Actually, I barely heard anything at all until mid-video. I know you spend a lot of time during the day driving that car, so I understand why you'd want to keep noise to a reasonable level. Personally, I like a deep, intimidating rumble, but I also understand how that can get weary after a while.
Nice ride, Scott.

RochesterI do a lot of freeway driving and a constant drone at those speeds gets old real fast. Plus you get the surprise factor with a quiet car.
hotstartup-I did the VIAS block plate the day before the test pipe, so it is hard to say for sure what improvement is from each but my car feels noticeably stronger at freeway speeds.
Nexus67-my guess would be if you have an O2 sensor behind the main cat, then you'd get an SES light if you swap it out for a test tube.

You know, I read your comment this morning, before I left for work, and there was a part of me that thought, "Yeah, my car is really loud, too." Maybe too much so, at times.
But then when I pulled into the office park, and pushed 2nd gear hard into the winding, uphill roadway, I thought, "That throaty exhaust is pure sex!"
I don't miss the stock exhaust at all.

Are you being sarcastic, or for real? I suppose there would be some kind of smily if you were kidding.
