If you're 6 inches further back than the furthest you can normally be, would the airbag still have any safety value? What about the side airbag (if you have it)?

From a safety POV, the more you look at this thing we all got a good laugh out of, the more dangerous it looks. I think the right action would be to get a full sized sedan, or truck, for the kid next year.

The Maxima is listed as #1 in cars with the most legroom which was a major reason why I bought the car. I do a lot of driving and cannot see myself spend a ton of cash to gas up an SUV.

Wow...looks like this thread is bringing out all the giants on the org!

I am 6'-4", and honestly I wouldnt mind an extra inch or 2 for the legroom. So I understand BigOgre's wanting to do this. If I was any taller than I am, I would be pretty uncomfortable driving my car.

So how about instead of making fun of his idea, help him out and give some ideas on how to improve what he has done like a few have. I would personally try to get some thicker steel plate for the brackets to add a bit of strength. The plates in the picture look a little flimsy IMO.

I dont know much about the seats and their stock attachment, but did you look into moving and reusing the the stock supports? If its bolted to the floor, you could possibly drill some new holes and rebolt it in its new location?

Just my $0.02......

And to you short guys who never have to worry about things like this and are laughing at us tall guys.....

you are short!

Honestly though, these type of responses are exactly why people are posting their 'ideas' less and less on the org, which is a shame in itself.

Instead of helping and expanding on the idea some of you shoot it down altogether.

Creative, Yeah. Buuuttt...I wouldn't risk my life like that. No way.

There could potentially be problems in the future: insurance, airbags not being effective, or even worse.

I would just sell the Max and purchase a vehicle that will fit your brother, properly.

Yes, but Anomaly, have you ever driven a Mini? The car is a total optical illusion. It's like walking into the Weasley tent at a Kidich Tournament.

The Mini interior feels positively cavernous; (relatively speaking).

Its funny you brought this up......I have a cousin who has a corvette convertible as his weekend car, and has driven maximas and a G35 coupe as his daily drivers for as long as I can remember. The last time I saw him about a month ago, he told me that he's driving a mini now I almost fell over when he told me that. He's 6'-3" and my first thought was how could he possibly fit. But he said he has tons of room in it with himself, a passenger, and lots of cargo.

There is no way that passes inspection. Not to mention the distance that he would slide forward in an accident with the lap belt over his thighs.
