Speedometer Pinion question

My auto transmission has been on the fritz, so i just picked up a used transmission, the new transmission is from a 2001 model, just like mine, but it has a speedometer pinion installed, while my transmission just has a block off plate. I looked on courtesy parts diagram and it doesn't say if the transmission itself is any different.

So should I just use my harness and install a block off plate where the pinion is installed? Is there a different version of the transmission?

Here is a diagram from courtesy that shows both parts.

your car determines the vehicle speed from the ABS sensors, so just block it off
